Hi all, Another open invite.
briztoon and I will be setting off from Belmont Road Shopping Village at 9:30am Wednesday 4 Jan, if early morning rides are not convenient for you why not join us!
Depending on conditions we will take one of the following two routes:
http://www.bikemap.net/route/417159
Or
http://www.bikemap.net/route/1371384#la ... =11&type=2
Either way it will work out to about 125km (although not shown the Redcliffe Loop is return via Wynnum/Manly Esplanade). If you would like to come but are concerned about the distance we can do the Bay Loop as it has a bug-out point around the 80km mark, anyway all are welcome.

Just curious guys...... but why do you ride so late in the morning? Riding around that route in peak hour and towards midday is nothing short of suicidal.

I finish work between 12:30am and 1:30am, so don't usually get out of bed until 9am/10am. So I usually ride just after peak hour in the morning. Up until this week, my rides have usually been two or three hours long. Dizz likes longer rides (which has accelerated my riding learning curve) so we go for longer rides.

Poor day for Dizz. Loses a water bottle on the way to meet up. Then Dizzs' chain breaks barely 5k's into the ride. Luckily we were close to Goldcross cycles, and 30 minutes later we were back on the road. Except Dizz banged her knee up pretty bad, but decided to carry on. I broke the 100k barrier for the first time today (yay me ). Thankfully for me, Dizz rides a mountain bike, otherwise she would leave me for dead, especially up the hills (what? them ain't hills).
Thanks for the ride today Dizz, really enjoyed it. Sorry for getting lost Next time I'll stay on your wheel.

Like briztoon it’s also better for me time wise.osrg wrote:Just curious guys...... but why do you ride so late in the morning?
Whenever it is even remotely required to guarantee my safety; I religiously maintain Lane Control. In practice this means that for the most part I occupy the centre of the lane in which I am travelling and as a consequence those routes are completely safe.osrg wrote:Riding around that route in peak hour and towards midday is nothing short of suicidal.
In fact, if you ride "Big" all urban cycling in good visibility is completely safe. I would encourage anyone who feels that higher volumes of traffic automatically constitutes a hazardous environment to re-examine their safety strategies
Thanks but I have no doubt that your grit, testosterone and youth will leave me in your wake over the next 6-12 months…briztoon wrote:... Thankfully for me, Dizz rides a mountain bike, otherwise she would leave me for dead, especially up the hills (what? them ain't hills)...
Or do I level the field with a new Ultegra/Carbon Road Bike Maybe something like this:

By the way, you know how I wouldn’t look at my knee after the chain break and smashing it into the handlebars; it’s bad, really bad. Anyway I will have to stay out of the saddle for a day or so & then focus on strength work for say another four to six days before we hit out again.

I'd like to see pics of your knee, morbidly curious. Take it easy Dizz, don't over do the strength work.
