2012 Metric Century a Month Challenge Register
Postby Aushiker » Fri Jan 06, 2012 1:00 pm
I thought this was a great idea and worth trying here. I have shamelessly stolen the idea from Kidds stuff! at YACF who stole if from CC.
The challenge is open to anyone who feels up to completing a 100 km ride by the 31st January 2012 and a minimum of one a month from then on. Your first ride must be in January, no doubling up in the following month to catch up.
You must ride one metric century 100 km per month to successfully complete the challenge. Simply log every ride of 100 km or more and award yourself a point for each 100 km ridden. Audax rides (calendar or perm) are permitted however you can only count them as a 100 km ride (assuming it was at least 100 km of course) and only one Audax ride per month. Makes it fairer for the non-endurance riders.
The aim of challenge is to serve as a motivator. There is a competitive element whereby the person with the most points by the end of 2012 may receive a virtual pat on the back from other participants.
Register your interest by creating your own post and then post a new updated one as the year progress with the details of each new ride.
The rules are:
1. At least one metric century each month.
2. Each metric century is worth 1 point.
3. Double centuries (non Audax) are worth two points and so on.
4. For very long continuous rides, use the start date to log the ride.
5. 50 km on Saturday and 50 km on Sunday is not a continuous ride!
6. Only one Audax per month to count and it can only count for one point
7. GPSr and/or logging of rides using GPSr is NOT a requirement to enter.
Your post might look something like this:
8 Jan, WARTY 1 Point, 103.5KM, Total Points: 1, Total Distance: 103.5KM
15 Jan, Epiphany Audax 1 Point, 107KM, Total Points: 2, Total Distance: 210.5KM
5 Feb, Plodders CC RT 1 Point 129.5KM Total Points: 3, Total Distance: 340KM
It will be easier and more up to date to copy your previous post with your latest ride and re-post as there is a time limit on editing.
Have Fun
Andrew

GPS validation is NOT required. It is a fun competition ... if people cannot be honest, so be it.Ken Ho wrote:Are you asking for GPS validation, or is it an honesty system ?

It would be appreciated if you took a moment to review the opening post and post your rides as per guidelines. The whole point is about building a score over the 12 months and having fun challenging each other. If the guidelines need explaining please let me know.flashgaza wrote:Here is my first one.

I'm in.
I'm dobbing myself in for a century of centuries this year. I'd like to do 100km+ each Saturday and Sunday. Minus a few weekends here and there, add a few for public holidays and annual leave.......
Cheers,
Stuart.

Personally I wouldn't treat coming home changing bikes and going out again as a continuous ride; to me that is two rides but that said it is up to what you record as a ride. I am not going to argue the point if you treat it as a single ride.Mugglechops wrote:Can it be done on 2 bikes? No problem. Strava links suck, cos I'm not a member, and don't wish to join.Aushiker wrote:GPS validation is NOT required. It is a fun competition ... if people cannot be honest, so be it.Ken Ho wrote:Are you asking for GPS validation, or is it an honesty system ?

No need for links to Strava or anything else. Of course if folks want to include them as Eleri did that is fine, I just don't want others to be excluded because they don't use Strava and/or GPS or any other logging program. All that is needed for the reporting purposes is the information referred to in the example in the opening post.Ken Ho wrote:No problem. I'm fairly sure that an imperial century is 160km.RonK wrote:I'd just like to point out that a metric century is actually 160 kilometers.
Metric is 100km.

I am in... I rarely do 100's even when I am fit. But if my toes can handle 3 hours of winter I will try and do a quickie before end of janvier.

If that is so I've done one most Sundays for the past 5 years, and all the metric centuries I've done in that period (2 per annum) have been closer to double centuries.U2adam!!! wrote:I'm fairly sure that an imperial century is 160km.RonK wrote:I'd just like to point out that a metric century is actually 160 kilometers.

I certainly won't be calling my Sunday ride a 'century', and I doubt anyone else in the bunch would either.
