Been a very slow start to the year, a week down and only completed 60 km. I am out at work and battling to get going. I was away from the bike on Monday and Tuesday, but with the temperatures in North West Queensland as they are, I can’t get motivated. To give you an idea what I am against, these are the max temperature that are around an hour before knock off time in the shade.

Sunday - 40.6
Monday – 39
Tuesday – 38.8
Wednesday – 40.1
Thursday – 40.2
Friday (Yesterday) – 42

Fore cast for the next few days. Today 42 (40 at the moment at 1pm), 41, 39, 40, 39, 39.At least I go home on Wednesday  , should be cooler so I will have to do a bit of catch up. :D

Not so easy riding in the morning. We only have one road between the camp and site, all of 16 km, and have to be off the road by 5:30. This makes a very early start to get an hour + ride in, then a 12 hour day at work.

Has anyone else noticed that as a club we've logged nearly 30K & are leading all other clubs.

Keep up the great work guys, keep logging those rides, lets show them others that we Aussies know how to ride.

I noticed that... kinda insane... is there some other, bigger, bike journaling site?

PS: We're coming 50th (of 438) in KM per rider (I copied the full list into Excel). The main reason we're on top is that we have a much larger number of riders than most clubs... but then... no other club with anywhere near our number of riders has as large a score for km/rider. So... yeah, we kick arse.

There's Strava, Bikely, not sure about many others, not sure how many members we have compared to the other clubs, they probably haven't really started yet.

But it would be good if we can try to come out on top, get all your forum friends to join in & log all their kms, every little bit helps.

It's pretty meaningless. Ausi Cycling Forums is a unique synthetic club not a proper cycling club.
We have many more members posting than any of the others.

Incidentally your progress is amazing Wal. Not riding around Australia are you? Say, you're not Dave Alley are you? :D

Not riding around Australia, I did explain last week that I got a government job Nov last year, so I only work 4 days a week, cycling to work saves me 80minutes a day over public transport (so I'm back to commuting by bike) & have 3 full days to ride. I've now got no kids at home, wifey does her own stuff when she's not at work, cycling is my hobby, I really enjoy just switching 'off' & riding where ever the road takes me. Been from Brisbane down just over the border & back, rode up to the Sunshine Coast & back today, some days I just ride around Brisbane metro area for 12 hours. I don't look at time or speed, I just watch my heart rate, when you're not thinking about what you're doing it's really easy & enjoyable. Do I ever know where I'm going when I ride off from home? No, I just pack the pump, 4 tubes, the mobile, $50 cash & a heap of energy gels, etc & go.

How many k's will I do? I don't even know, after the first day of the year, I revised my total to 15K, then after the public holidays were over I changed to 20K, Friday night I revised again to 25K.

Will I make it? I don't know, will I change it again? Maybe sometime in Dec (if I've made my total). I plan on having 3 bike-free days in May otherwise I'll cycle everyday. If I get a TT bike I may have trouble making my target, if I don't make it I don't care, it's the riding that I enjoy, the target is just a little extra motivation.

You're top of the leaderboard after 7 days Wal and I get the feeling that's where you'll be after 365. Huge kudos!!
Keep riding and keep enjoying.

Wow - Bicycle Man. You should sell your services as a test rider. "Test your TT bike for six months sir?"

I used to run before cycling... but that is where I got my plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy, so no more running for me. Getting into cycling is a pretty awesome silver lining though :)

I also run. Only ran 1000kms last year as I was swimming and cycling more. Used to run over 100kms a week but like Mezla, the niggles got the better of me: achilles tendonopathy and a sesamoid bursa that had to be surgically removed.

Still jog a couple of times a week now.

I assumed that spelling also, but turns out the "i" is correct... pretty weird.

Thanks, Mezla.

The perils of the English language. I'll update my brain bank.

Do you have any grief when you're cycling?

Not much if I wear thick socks. My Achilles is very tender at the moment, so if I do up the shoe tight (as I like to) then it can hurt a bit, particularly when going over bumps. Usually I'm fine, but it was aggravated recently by spending a few weeks on my feet at work (SOE install stuff). Once it gets back to normal I'll experience no pain cycling or walking unless I aggravate it again by doing something silly like running.
