Mismatched kit?

Postby busted_stuff » Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:33 am

Saw a couple of guys heading down Victorian Road in Gladesville the other day - in full Lampre kit.

But... they were riding what looked like Sky's Pinarellos. Two guys with plenty of money and confused allegiances, or Pros sharing bikes? :D

What's wrong with that? Just because a guy rides a sky pinarello doesn't mean he can only wear the same kit
unless he's sponsored by the team.
Do you ride avanti and only buy avanti kits?

Don't think its a big deal. After all, most of us are amateurs and can wear what we want, unlike the pros who are locked into contracts.

Not pedantic at all... well, not too much :P and I thought someone might invoke The Rules.

No, what I meant was, from my quick view, I was pretty sure these were real Lampre guys out here for TDU. Hence the ? over their bikes.

Of course I don't care if my kit and bike match! Shoot me down, I don't care, but thought folks might be interested.

Victoria Rd Gladesville, Sydney?

Nope TDU participants would be riding in Adelaide I would expect, not Sydney.

Please see the rules

http://www.velominati.com/blog/the-rules/

Rule #17 / Team kit is for members of the team.
Wearing Pro team kit is also questionable if you’re not paid to wear it. If you must fly the colors of Pro teams, all garments should match perfectly, i.e no Mapei jersey with Kelme shorts and Telekom socks.

I sometimes wear EuropeCar bib knicks with a Lampre top, Radio Shack socks, FDJ gloves and a Rabobank helmet. I ride a T-Mobile Giant replica. Is that okay?

Matching gear should only be worn while racing.
All other times it comes across as pretty pratty really.

If you can help it, you should mix your gear for training rides. Abit like getting married: something old, some thing new, something borrowed (but never returned), and something Mapei ….

Am I breaking the rules if I'm wearing Nike shorts and a Reebok t-shirt on my Merida bike ?

Would you wear a maroons jersey with blues shorts?

Would you wear a Collingwood jersey with Hawthorne shorts and Essendon socks?

I dare say the answer to the above is no. So it is just as wrong to wear mismatched kit.

Please consult the rules, as they have been posted :)

I wouldn't wear a Collingwood guernsey at gunpoint.

I've had a Milram jersey for years, i've ridden probably 15 different bikes while wearing it and none of them were a Colnago :D . In a perfect world (where we all had lots of money) sure match the heck out of everything, but i don't think it matters.
