 ...imagine coming up behind your 2 min/3 min (whatever it was) man or woman and seeing that  that you had to pass.

Go on tell me there was traffic coming the other way as well!.
Talk about turning National Champs into a laughing stock.

At the 15 kilometre mark, with all the heavy-hitters out on course, Rogers, Durbridge, Meyer and Richie Porte (Sky) were all within seconds of each other, and setting the tone for what was to come. Soon after, Rogers had moved ahead of Luke Roberts (Saxo Bank) on the road having left the start house one minute behind.

Oh it was worse than that. 1 minute intervals.

Jack Bobridge crashed due to the wind wash of a truck travelling the other way. Even at a national championship level it appears bicycles don't belong on our roads

I'm genuinely ignorant. Do any of the cycle racing nations we're aspiring to be like force professionals to share roads with traffic during their time trial championships?

Well Australia on cycling terms is probably rated equal or higher than some of the old school heartlands these days... But put it this way... In my region you may / do share the road on club level tt's and rr's... But often the traffic will be diverted in to a one way system and have to stay behind you the whole time... At a departmental level usually the road will be closed. At regional level it will 100% be closed. At national level it would be closed, barried, bannered and populated with gendarmes :-)

hey it's only right that if you want to be australian champion, you should be required to demonstrate your mettle in negotiating bogans shaving you as they pass and throwing soft drinks at you.

Great idea, Jules ... it would be like the cobbles on Paris-Roubaix, integral to the event.

I'd pay to see "Get off our road, ya little w*g p@@f" yelled at Alberto Contador from a ute, along with the very real possibility that Contador might retaliate by reaching through the passenger window.
