Yes I am doing the challenge but I am flying back to Sydney on Saturday, I am sure that would be more than enough for menewie wrote:I'll be there! Riding the Bupa Challenge on the Friday, Adelaide to Tanunda. Depending on the weather and how I pull up after the ride, was thinking of riding down to Willunga on Sat as well.
Thanks Schmenz, I am not good with afternoon rides, I can only ride in the early mornings. But I will see you on the 2nd for the Sydney Girls rideif you need a training buddy for rides just let me know...although im sure youd whoop my butt.

Which distance is everyone doing for the BUPA ride? 79kms is enough for me-so worried about the hills!

i'm signed on for the full ride (138) though there's an escape point, can cut out 19kms and Menglers if a. i'm slow, b. its hot, c. i just can't be bothered! d. there's just too many people!Welsh Dragon wrote:We're going.

i haven't done Menglers but i've done quite a few hills in SA and i don't reckon they are too bad but it has to be said i live in Katoomba so i'm used to hills, no bloody choice

but about the wave, when registering they asked what average speed one could do and registered people in a particular 'wave'. all nominally leaving at 6.30 but of course they will send people off in waves, fastest first, slowest last, seems a bit unfair that really!

They ask the faster riders to line up at the front etc, but it never happens.
Last time I rode, we got waved off early (15 min) by an enthusiastic police escort

thanks MichaelB, that's good to know actually 'cos i put myself way to low in the pecking order (not a good look for a grasshopper) and i'm rather too law-abiding. i'd better put on my anarchist hat........MichaelB wrote:Nah, it's just a mass start.feral grasshopper wrote:I DO like my escape routes, Apple, in all things in life, LOL!

I had a great ride, right at the back as per usual, averaged about 22 (had to ride the Baum which is always a bit slower than my Amira) and didn't find Menglers a problem which is good considering I'm heading over to Bright next for the classic, Weather conditions just about ideal, police were great, good support, ample water and food and a great atmosphere. Didn't see anyone I knew though, masses of people! My verdict, thoroughly enjoyable and to be recommendednewie wrote:So ladies, how did you go? I found it a bit harder than I was expecting. Maybe I was tired from the drive over. But managed to get a nice rhythm up Menglers Hill. Or perhaps it was those Power Bar lollies I ate at the rest stop just before. Great weather & a well organised event I thought. Spent all day being passed by much fitter looking guys & girls though.

I am in the airport lounge ready to fly back to Sydney, I didn't see you Feral, You did very well. Well it was amazing, how good was the weather
As we started a rider just in front of me and more to the side on the left, decided to fall onto my back wheel, I thought oh no, I am not going to fall so I held onto my bike and rode holding onto my shaking bike. All was good I was fine. As for the guy that crashed, he seemed ok.
They have just called my flight so when I get home I have much to tell you. What I will say is that I did not go and do Menglers Hill I went the Chicken way, I am not worried about that as I have only just started training on the 2nd of Jan, so for me it was an achievement. I even cried at the end, after 3 back operations I am astonished that I was able to do such a ride.
I hope to do it next Year, I will be stronger and faster.
I will post soon. Once again fantastic feral you are amazing, well done.
