I was thinking that a bit of rain would be better than 30+ heat. I bet it gets bloody cold on the top of those mountains though.

Missed out on accom for the ride, so rode falls and mt. beauty last weekend with friends.

Mr. Garmin told me it was 36 degrees riding up mt. beauty on Sunday. The air temperature wasn't as bad as the ~10km of road directly exposed to the sun...

Temps sound nasty for the event - take care and keep hydrated people!

I've arrived in Broght, weather is gorgeous, , about 28 as we speak, just did Bright-Buffalo return, awesome views, the best ride! Doesn't get much better, having decent coffee now after registering for the classic :P :D 8)

did that ride new year's day feral. I love it. Nothing like standing in the water hole to recover the legs afterwards. Hope you all have fun.
I ride several bicycles, but not at once.

Not sure I'd could do this sort of ridding. Being a bit on the large size and having not many hills to train on. Having said that, I did speak to a fellow Leeton cyclist who has done it before and is going down for this one. Must ask him how he trains, mind you I did see him out the other day punt up and down our hills on a folding bike. His also only smaller and lighter than me.
Maybe that's his secret, anyway good luck to you all. :D

well i'm here in dinner plain. will probably climb hotham tomorrow and maybe buffalo on friday if i feel good, then the big one on sunday. my preparation has been pretty solid - 3, 4, 500km weeks for a few months, so i'm cautiously confident.

here's a video to get you in the mood.

rode up some of hotham today (from dinner plain down to the meg or thereabouts). either i wasn't feeling flash or the altitude and gradient got to me, as i didn't feel great. i was grinding out some sections at 8 km/h. now i'm getting nervous :)

i noted down the importance of not going into the red on the steep pitches - it's very uneven.

The Meg is hard to miss. If you are not sure if you rode up it, you probably didn't ride up it :)

I've done the ACE 250 twice. My time budget goes something like this:
- there's about 60 km of serious climbing 5 hours
- what goes up must come down 1.25 hours
- that leaves about 120 km of what, in normal circumstances, would be considered hilly terrain 5 hours
- stuffing my face at the five controls and water points - 1.25 hours

Total 12.5 hours. I have grey hair, bifocals and hearing aids. If you have none of these impediments, you will go faster.

When you turn left off the Omeo Highway to go up Whisky Tango Foxtrot Hill, you are 100 km from the finish and 400 metres above it.

Well that's useful! Not sure I can manage 60km at 12kph whilst climbing but we will see on the day!
