last Xmas I got all the way to anstead (en route to ipswich) only to realise it was closed. (i should have known)

I think Colleges Crossing is generally under when they are letting water out of Wivenhoe Dam. The Ipswich City Council's website says it is expected to be under until Thursday, but if it rains more, that may change.

you can usually detour over the weir, but there is a few hundred metres of graded sirt road from memory
