Good thing Masters licences are only $150 then

master6 wrote:Is it $220? I have yet to renew my CA licence, however I believe the fee for masters 3 to 7 is $150. I have been involved in Water Skiing and Kart Racing, and find cycling to be cheap by comparison. Entry fees for race events in Tasmania are bargain basement. Have you looked at the cost of the various "challenges", or "fun rides" as I call them. I think that you would get a lot more "event" activity via a CA licence and race entry fees, than you would get via "fun rides" for a given annual cost. As an example close to home, look at the Mt Wellington Challenge. It was a cycle club event, and the entry was $20. Last year it was taken away from the cycling clubs, and the entry fee went to $40. While you agonise over cycling costs, have a look at the Dome Coffee rides from Sandy Bay, and the Wednesday morning Richmond Bakery rides. Best value for money in cycling. Free Jeff
As I'm new to all of this, my fact-finding can be a little misguided, perhaps. On the Cycling.org website membership for Race Masters 1 to 7 is $220. Although I haven't checked out local pricing as yet. I've been following the Dome and Richmond Bakery threads. They do sound like something I'd be interested in, but not until my children reach a manageable age (they are 2 & 4 just now). Maybe I'll have to wait until I'm an old fart I rode the Norfy and the Channel last year, which I enjoyed very much. At least I'm getting a good 250k during the week between my commutes and lunch-time. In the meantime, I've signed up for the Wellington Challenge and would have done the recently announced PMM Challenge except it's on the same day as Wellington. Thanks for your help Jeff.

Someone cocked up when they designed the "life plan". When you are young, you have the energy, desire, and body to achieve and perform whatever your mind can conceive. Marriage, mortgage, children, work, study, and dozens of other obstacles get in the way. When you are older, the main obstacles have been overcome, you perhaps have the necessary finances, but a new hurdle emerges; your body! Do what you can. The fees are "interesting". Perhaps we are over governed, as we are in political life. Federal, State, and Local Governments. Do we need them all.? In cycling, within Australia, we have Cycling Australia, State Bodies, and Clubs. All need money to do their jobs. Perhaps we would have only two levels of cycling administration to pay for, if we did not have states.?? The fees you see on the internet sites for CA, and the various State sites, include the fees to cover all 3 bodies. Different states and clubs demand whatever fee they need, / or the market will accept. Your masters 3 to 7 research will show the following:- Tasmania $150 Qld $203 NSW $220 Vic $198 SA $220 ACT $210 NT Alice Springs $196 Darwin $201 An option is to buy a 3 day race licence for $44. I dont know whether there are any limits to repeat purchases. The $44 is applied as a credit toward the cost of an annual licence subsequently purchased in the same calendar year. My suggestion is to "dip your toe in the water" with a 3 day race licence. Have you noticed that STCC have a training ride tomorrow, free. You wont get a better deal than that, and you will be able to grab the ear of committee members , with all your questions, while you ride. See details on the STCC site.

And a top ride it was. Perfect weather. Well organised. Well led. Regrouping kept everyone in the event. BBQ ready to eat on arrival at Cornelian Bay. Thank you to the organisors, and chef Bucky.

Everyone got their 808's or full disc wheels ready for the TT?
or could you be hardcore and do it on your road bike, no deep dish and no aero bars. Oh wait I've done that.

I'll be doing it on the roadie, never done one before so I have no time to beat.
Variables aside, I'll use clip-ons next time and aero wheels and clip-ons the time after.

Do you mean that the other riders "blew you away" Barry (frankly, I doubt that), or do you mean that the racing caused you to feel excited?
