Grrrr... was about to swap out my old perishing tyres for some shiny new Conti Attack thingies and discovered front wheel flat. Investigation revealed a thorn which I must of picked up last lap of the river on Tuesday...

The new tube also had a imperfection and was leaking  so replaced that too....

Existing 3 + 2 new = 5
Cheers,

This is a thread I would prefer not to join but as I got my 4th for the year today it is time to share. All 4 in only 200km (was over seas for the first 2.5 weeks of the year)
1. Pinch flat on the way to work 16th Jan on the way to work. found it as I was about to go home.
2. After fixing the flat 400m from home got a double g
3. Pick up a piece of glass going around lake monger 18th Jan
4. Riding over the narrows bridge tonight heard a tick tick tick noise and sure enough. Could find anything in the tyre but it was just after it rained so I am assuming glass. First flat in the rear. Sure the first bit of fabric come through on the rear so up for a new tyre. Only done just under 2000km.

Rainy Canberra has done it to me again.

Had to change the front tire on the wet weather bike before leaving this morning, and then again halfway through the ride.

Well thats 4.

Hopefully this will be the last time I post in this thread.

Installed Panaracer Flataway Tyre Liners last night so fingers crossed these will keep my tubes safe and cosy

Number 1 ... bike been sitting for 12 days, rear was flat... had a little hole.
Actually thought I could go this year without a puncture...bad start  .

Better sign up just in case, although with the Hutchinson intensive road tubeless tyres I expect a trouble free run like the second half of last year.

+1 for me.

This morning on the way to Coot-tha going up just past the planetarium rear tyre felt squishy. Was almost at the top there. Go to the top, stopped and yep, sure enough it was flat. Was meeting Inwood at Simpsons Rd so I walked the last km and changed the tube there. Found the culprit, a builders staple straight through my gatorskins. Changed the tube, went to pump it up, then realised the valve length was too short! Got enough pressure in it to do Coot-tha twice anyway. Will change the tube during the week.

new total: 1

I'll jump on the wagon too... 2 for the year so far. The last one was particularly "pleasant". I was doing the 250 Audax ride and punctured on the Dinner Plane. Took the rear wheel off, took the tube out, put a new one in. A ute pulled up behind me. A couple got out, the guy had a floor pump and inflated my tyre, his partner took my old tube and they gave me a push off - what are the chance of that...

the local council has decided to grade the side of the road where i normally do my morning training/fitness rides.. just so happens that they covered the outer 8-10 inches of the road (on both sides) with lovely fresh gravel... i happen along, innocently minding my business and battling the 32kmhr headwind until the familiar 'geez, this road never felt this rough before' feeling sets in.. at least the 32kmhr tailwind made up for it on the return journey.

2 + 1 = 3 (so far)

Bugger. +1, 2.

Rode the hybrid today (full length mudguards...rain's-a-cummin), and the rear suddenly deflated. This is only about the 4'th time I've ridden it in two years, has a heavy/crappy Specialized Armadillo on the rear - but I'd forgotten there was a tyre liner in there as well. The tyre liner has shifted, probably when the tyre went flat while sitting in the shed, and the tube has been punctured by the edge of the tyre liner. Not where the bloody thing overlaps, but just an edge.

I forgot to post mine here when they happened.

+2 two weeks ago. Riding from Towoon Bay to The Entrance along Bay Rd got a flat on the rear. probably from some glass. No probs, I took out anything that remotely looked dangerous, replaced the tube and off I went. Sure enough, it goes again 5 minutes later in a different spot. Patched it up and it didn't even want to fill with air so another tube had to go in. Argh.

+1 from Tuesday, a small rock got embedded in the rear tyre to create a slowish flat while heading out of The Entrance. I could hear it from outside the tyre so just a small patch and away I was again.

That makes 3 for the year so far.

does it count if the puncture gets plugged up by sealant? I was heading out the other day, and noticed a little fountain of sealant gushing out of my front tyre. Was only a km out so I turned back home to do a quick wheel swap, and it'd stopped by the time I got there.

First for the year

Had to avoid a temporary home/party area at the citywest link rd cycling underpass this morning. Dodging the remnants of a fire, i rolled straight into the smashed liquor bottles. Sure enough, a couple of kms on and the glass found it's way through the tyre and poked into the tube.

start total = 0 +1
785 kms (785kms / 2514kms since last flat :P )

0x hybrid
0x racer (0/0 conti gp4000s)
1x fixie rear (conti gp4000s)
0x fixie front (kenda koncept - still going after 9000kms!)

New total = 1 (AT) 785kms per flat
n=10 (2013 & 2004 roads,2010 track,2x 2009 foldups,1990 hybrid,1992 trainer,2007 rental,1970's step through,1980's zeus)

One for me. First for 2012. Piece of glass managed to work its way into my front Schwalbe Marathon Cross HS 334 40-622 700 x 38C which is fitted to the Surly Long Haul Trucker. The tyre has done 2,227 km.

Total for 2012: 1

Didn't think this counted as a flat, but i have re-read the rules and it seems it does. When i was replacing the tube on my last glass flat I pinched the first tube with the tire lever and destroyed that tube, i was angry but i had another back up tube so was all good. +1 Total 4.

Does it count if your pumping up your tyres before you head out for a ride and snap off the top of the valve when you take the bike pump off the valve? Second "flat" ever, and first one where I changed the inner tube myself.

Oh look, I'm all thumbs and not mechanical minded at all, so changing a tyre is an achievement for me. So stop rolling your eyes or rolling on the floor laughing.
