Lo All
Live in Marrickville, and the best local climb is up Homer St from the river (down near Adora Chocolates) up to the lights on Bayview St. I was just wondering if anyone who is familiar with the climb might be able to give me an idea what the gradient of that stretch is and how much vertical cimb there is there? I'm something of a newb, and am still trying to get a feel for gradients and such things.
I've created a segment within strava, but the numbers & profile it spits out make zero sense.

G'day Eggman,
Fellow Marrickville resident here, I used to ride up Homer St when I started out.
I can't give you much idea of how big a climb it is except to say it's a mere babe compared to what's out there.
Have you been up been up Bayview Ave, the road from Tempe station up to Earlwood? It's steeper but gets you to the same elevation.
Have fun,
Peter

Livingstone Rd northbound from Wharf Rd.... / Repeats of that will kill you and for a warm up you could ride up Illawarra Rd up to Earlwood.

If you're looking for hill repeats, the gradients on the run from Turrella Stn up to Homer st,
the official
cycle route from Mascot to M5 are a bit
tougher than what you're been doing.
Hill repeats on Finlay/Banks/Hocking St to Homer St intersection
will get your heart rate going. The top end of Banks St has about 200 m at just over 10% gradient.
And it's very low-level residential traffic. Bayview St from Tempe can be pretty damned hairy
- lot's of motorists try to take a run at it at high speed, and run wide towards the gutter (i.e. you)
on the bends as it ascends.
