Because the 650 is smaller, one revolution of the wheel is a shorter distance than a 700, that's why the gearing is lower. As it happens I have a compact though. Being old and all

Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??
oh bring on the nerds please, keeps things interesting! some hills i need all the help i can get, compact, 650 wheels and 11/32 cassette,
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??You are both nuts. I bet you are not old, I actually think I saw you Eleri, ( you didn't look old to me) in CT riding with DHCC. I often ride there on Saturday mornings.
There is no way in the world I would swap my 53/39 gear at the front and 11-27 at the back on the 650c wheels. I would lose a lot of my speed, I find it hard enough to have a compact on the pinarello but I need it with 700c wheels A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. It probably was me, or one of my other short female cycling buddies. We've got quite a collection in the club. I'm the only one with a black bike though I think.
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??I should think about joining your group. But I think I am to far away.

Soz, I've been slacko (well busy riding BUPA and Vic Alps!), if I can actually remember how to post piccies, I will do so soon, I'm about to take the bike on its first suitcase run to SA for an event in mid Feb so it will be interesting to see if it all goes without a hitch with the debuild and rebuild! The Rolf Primas by the way, seem to be a really good wheelset, well got me up Hotham mostly on them with minimal walking....
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??looking forward to the pics

Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??She is pretty! Excellent colour too.
I hadn't notice the lacing pattern of the spokes when I saw it that time on the Audax ride. I like that.
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??

Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??
650C Wheels are not so readily available. I'm doing a new stock order next week and I have enough pre-orders from Junior riders to be able to import some of the Pro-Lite Bracciano 650 wheelset. They are the same hubs, rims, spokes etc as our ever popular Bracciano 700C model - just smaller size. 20 spoke front, 24 spoke rear, 1285g for the set and they are a clincher rim. I'm getting some extra sets to hold but there won't be many spare so I'd thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who wants to pre-order and I will adjust my order to ensure an allocation. PM me if interested or contact me via our website as I don't check this section often. Anyone who pre-orders will get sub $500 price including delivery. Delivery would be by January 2013 at the latest although hopefully sooner. Our Website is: http://www.pro-liteoz.com Find us on Facebook by searching for "Pro-Lite Australia"
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??It's good to see 650's becoming more widely available again.
Recently i've run across a few new products.....pro-lite brac650^, a23 rims, kinlin xr300(20/24), hed jet 6/9, some racing tyres. So looks like there is still some demand after a few years of limited options.
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??
I'm surprised they arn't more popular, for shorter people there is so many benefits with running the smaller wheels. We sell a lot of Pro-Lite's junior race bike called TheOne which comes in two sizes, 24" and 650C. Really that is where the demand for our Bracciano 650 is comming from (junior market). I'm going to bring in next year a small number of the Pro-Lite Cuneo 650 frameset - it essentially is an Adult 650 frameset made from a high end alloy - weight is around 1kg for the frame. I don't expect there is much market for them but if we can sell a few per year and help some people onto a bike that fits them, then thats good enough for us. Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??This is a 650c bike believe it or not. 57cm frame from the 80's. A TT bike from that era apparently & a little bizarre, but makes for nice show piece hanging in our gym room.
Sorry for the thread hyjack. I know this is about petite bikes, but thought I'd post this up as it does have 650 wheels which caught my eye in the thread title. ![]() Gas propulsion.......it's natural don't fight it.
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??
Not surprising to me, given the number of men in bike shops who suffer a god complex and just know that everyone is made in their image. One told me I should ride 700c cos parts are hard to come by (even when they were fashionable for tri And yet I've had two acknowledge 650 recently when they couldn't see my bike As more women and kids ride, it's good to see people with an open mind and concerned for fit. Will keep it in mind.
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??Indeed, I'll back you up on that one Grasshopper! Much better to have a bike that fits. And really, I don't have any problems at all finding anything 650c. And if I need to borrow a tube, then a 700c can be folded to fit!
Re: 650c wheels again! Rolf Prima??They look pretty cool...and light!
