Vintage, yesteryear and retro biking
by spinner » Mon Feb 13, 2012 8:58 pm
Had a blast with this last year (see http://www.noosa-eroica.com.au ), but obviously a week before Xmas wasn't ideal. This year we are hoping to give it another go around mid-year. I was thinking the weekend of 30th June-1st July; 1. It doesn't clash with the heaps of other events here in Noosa. 2. Being during school holidays might make it easier for interstaters to attend. But it's been pointed out that accommodation is expensive at these times and for many of us, school holidays are irrelevant Maybe a couple of weeks later may be better? So, I 'm going to throw it out there; when (if at all ) suits you guys??

Yay! Great to hear news about it so soon, you can count me in if it's to be held on a day ending in y . Now just to decide what bike to ride this year, the Univega again or one of the 6 restorations i have lined up...

Haha, that would have been me before and after the ride, harping on endlessly to anyone who would listen . Plenty of guys went fine on their 700c tires, but i was delighted with how my 27" tires went, and will DEFINITELY be on them again this year. Make sure you learn the lesson of the poor sod on the Tommassini single speed, who copped something like 14 flats due to his Campag Delta brakes being barely 2mm from the tires (trapping any rock that happened to get up there).

Pencil me in again. This time I'm running Vittoria Rubino pro 2's 700x28c don't like fixing flats!

This sort of thing http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/27-x-1-1-4-D ... 2316c6ee58 . You can get a pair of 27 x 1-1/4 whitewalls with tubes for $45, a fair bit cheaper than gatorskins .

If you have room for 28s i can strongly recommend Michelin City tires, about 3,000k so far with no punctures or even any wear at all.

That might be the day.... I was looking at 15th but it clashes with Pushies Galore & I don't want to miss that this year Plus the swapmeet might yield up a gem or 2 If 22 July doesn't clash with anything we might lock it in!

I'm good with that date, gives me just enough time to have my current list of restos done. Fingers crossed i might have more than a dozen really well presented bikes for the show n shine this year .

I usually run Specialized 700 x 23's on that bike, but changed to Conti GP4000S 700 x 25's from the bike that shall not be mentioned and the difference was quite marked. No flats here for that rider either.

That would be well worth a trip up north. I'll lock it in.
Can I have some of these?

Hi spinner, Is the T shirt pattern for last years ride still availabe at the T Shirt shop? Maybe you should have a new one for this year available for viewing at the Show & Shine and orders could be taken.
Cheers Duds

Hopefully some announcement soon on venues for this year's Show & Shine as well as other things; in the meantime, check out the current issue of Bicycling Australia (Mar./April) for a wee plug on Noosa Eroica Thanks Simon. For a little inspiration, this weekend sees the running of the Strade Bianche for the pros. (I wonder what tyres they run??) http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/lat ... eview.html Duds, I'll get Cotterpin to model the T shirt, as he's the most urbane of us lot.

Noosa Eroica 2012 dates set 21-22 July, hosted by Noosa Marina http://www.noosamarina.com.au/ Yep, we're in competition with the final stages of this year's Tour de France Online registration, soon hopefully, for mini-Eroica on saturday, the Show & Shine and Sunday's Noosa Eroica. Also a couple of social events planned to keep the non-riding other-half happy too Thanks to River Deck Restaurant http://www.riverdeckrestaurant.com.au/

Looking forward to this one after missing last year (Christmas committments). My Berretto will be wearing 700x28c Hutchinson Globetrotters. They might be a bit slow on the bitumen but hopefully no punctures. I bought the bike specifically for this event. We will probably make three new riders. Tony

ldr, yep, thinking to keep the same course, now that we have those two 'iconic' climbs: Jampot Creek road and Shadbolt Rd!! Looking forward to seeing you there, redrover. Cotterpin will be keen to see another Berretto. Cheers, spinny

Hi Spinner, Are modern helmets a requirement or could one wear a vintage?
