Anyone got any old bmx's???

Postby waza007 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 10:54 pm

Hi there, I collect old bmx's from the 70's and 80's. Anyone else collect bmx or want to trade/sell bmx parts for road bike stuff?

After talking with Karen I have decided that I wouldn't mind having a crack at a Mongoose rebuild, but there are very few hard rubbish cleanups out here in the sticks & when there is, the resident must pay, so there are very few piles of treasure even then.

The local recycling center at the rubbish dump has bikes but they're all rubbish, so I just keep my eyes open & gain inspiration from the small number of BMX types that I am overhauling to add to the bike hire fleet at the local bike hire/cafe. [Café Dérailleur.]

Here are some pics until you grow tall enough Warren. If only my bikes were that shiny! It also looks like the numbers have grown since I last saw a pic.

Oh dear, looks like Karen is being indiscrete & you have been 'outed'

That's a fabulous collection you have there, ... I'm as envious as hell.
[I counted 36 whole bikes in this picture & it's only one side of the shed.]

Oh no! One of the tuffs is hanging up crooked!

Problem is, can you see which one it is?

That's a sight to behold!

I recently bought a late 80's redline rl340, as it was my dream bike as a high schooler with no disposable income. I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for a cheap (hah!) pk ripper, preferably without a cracked seat tube (did they all let go there?).

Just out of curiosity, how much would an early 80's 'goose have sold for when new?

Looks like I am going to have to stop overlooking all those old BMXs on hard rubbish searches now. DANG! :x  Could've picked up a Raleigh with 'Tuff' (?) wheels the other day.....

EDIT: In the meantime, here are a few, more contemporary BMXs I've picked up

I just acquired a couple of early 1980s Mongoose Kos Kruisers, which are a 26" BMX.

I am doing them up and was surprised to find that you can buy replica decal sets for them on eBay.

Does anyone else here have a Kos Kruiser ?

I noticed that a frame and fork set sold on eBay over the easter weekend for
$600.00

Are you sure it actually sold?
There was a chrome frame & forks that did not get a bid with $600 as the opening bid price
It was a bit ambitious I thought & apparently, so did everybody else.

Oops, it was relisted & it sold the second time around.

There is a complete one on eBay in the US at AU $827.17 so far, with 6 days 18 hours to go.

'Indi 300' - cheap department store bike I recall rehashed every so often. Might be a cheap transition bike for kids wanting to go from a restrictive single speed BMX to something a bit 'sportier'
