Clarence St in the city has published rates for their workshop.

http://www.cyclery.com.au/workshops-bic ... vice-rates

I would consider that to be the upper limit.

Well, they're certainly not going to get rich with those prices but I tend to gag at the cost... not to go off point here, but if you've any mechanical nouse and think you'll be cycling for a few years their price guide is great incentive to buy the specific tools and some grease, read up online manuals and do your own servicing. Otherwise, yeah, I agree with what he said.

I agree. $40 should be enough to get you all the tools you need for BB service if you choose wisely eg. eBay and other places. It's not rocket science but just be prepared to get your hands dirty and supply some elbow grease.

You could buy the removal tool and do the job yourself. It's not that difficult and it could be handy to have the skill for future.

Those BB cups dont really have serviceble bearings. They are "sealed".

Its most likely re-install and grease spindle surfaces to try and eliminate the small creaking noise. ( I hoping its coming from there. I’ve eliminated all other elements that might be responsible )

Sometimes you can lever open the seal and regrease the bearing and clip the seal back on.

Usually, unless done immediately the noise appears, the bearings are shot anyway and this is an exercise is extendnig the inevitable by a few weeks only.

If it's a creaking noise it's usually because the BB retention cap isn't quite tight enough.

Im hoping its something like this. The Bike is only 5 months old so the chances of a BB being catus already would be slim.

cheers

What is causing the noise can be deceptive. Many BB noises are actually a noise from somewhere else.

XT BB's which are nearly identical have a habit of collapsing with in weeks!.But if you find the right mechanic the bearings are easy enough to replace...not that shimano want you to know that.I am getting some ceramics fitted to a spare dura ace cup set...mmmmm :D
