I'm hanging on to that one Chucky. Hope you don't mind
Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestJust saw on the news that they're packing sandbags in Cooma tonight because they're expecting heavy rain and flooding in the area
We might need to take a dinghy to get through Greg
Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestLooks like the climbing gods are against us
I guess a travel review is in order. Apologies for being unable to contribute in that regard. ![]() FPR Ragamuffin
Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestSo Bandito's not coming, or just his car's out?
I have 2 cars available, however both will only take 1 bike. We may need to try jamming all the bikes in Spiza's van. Although if Don and Jeff are out we're down to 6 bikes. Then we can possibly take just one car with 4 people in it. Weatherwise I'm going to see how today pans out. They're expecting a fair bit of flooding in areas we need to drive through. I might give the accommodation guy a call tomorrow for some more local info if it's not looking good. Then we can make a decision on whether to bother going at all. Greg
Re: 2012 Alpine Sufferfesti wont be doing any cycling down there as all the climbing (standing up out of the saddle) will be too much for my foot. I still plan to come down though and be support/hand out water bottles or whatever is needed to make your cycling more pleasureable. I will still make my own way there and back.
Lerts hope all this bad weather is gone by friday lunchtime.
Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestBoys....if the roads are ok to pass through...lets just go! I don't get a 3 day pass that often and thius weather can suddenly shine on Saturday like rain never fell this week!
Worst case scenario we get to drink at Jindy's LOL!

Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestI think there was flooding between Cooma and Jindabyne last year. I remember driving through floodwater on the way home and looking at trees that were uprooted and deposited along the creeks. It could be an issue again this year.

Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestThe weather looks like being crap in the Alps for most of the weekend. We had a 4 day motorbike ride planned for Tumut-Buxton-Harrietville (and the 3 peaks loop route) that is now postponed.

Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestGuys, I've spoken to the accomodation guy (Scott) this arvo, and I've just been checking the RTA live traffic site and Cooma-Monaro Council site.
At this stage the highway is still open, although there is water over the highway just west of Cooma. They are evacuating people in low lying areas around Cooma. Forecast is for more heavy rain today and tomorrow, rain Saturday and showers Sunday. Scott said that water can rise quickly around Cooma, but it also leaves quickly. I raised the possibility of us postponing our trip with Scott. I got the impression that if the roads are blocked he had no problems with us rebooking. I did however get the impression that if the roads AREN'T blocked, he would probably let us reschedule, but somewhat reluctantly. He said he would speak to his wife about it. At this stage they're booked up through April. Chances are with the dropping temps and long range rain forecast we'd have to put it back to Spring/ early Summer anyway. Worst case would be if we cancelled and Scott made us forfeit the $275, but he seemed like a decent bloke, so hopefully it wouldn't come to that. ATM I'm thinking of giving it til early this evening to see what the rain/ flooding does around Cooma. I know you guys have booked holidays, but if we're no chance of riding down there I'd rather stay at home. Any thoughts or suggestions? (relevant ones Georgey
Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestJust to add to that, they've just closed the road between Perisher Valley and Charlottes Pass "until further notice"

Re: 2012 Alpine SufferfestI would really like to push through but its up to our collective judgment right now.
IF we will not push through, why not make an impromptu ride to the Entrance or Newcastle tomorrow. Sleep there overnight then headback Saturday. Don can ride his motorbike or drive Spiza's Van I mean we already prepped for this...why not?
