East lake cycle path going to be closed for a while...

Postby HAKS » Sat Mar 03, 2012 3:56 pm

Guess this justifies the decision to not fully repair it after the 2010 floods.

Damn! That ruins that side of the basin then I guess, unless you want to brave that road outside ADFA with crazy tradies!

Guess I won't be taking the scenic route to work for a while... Given they've pulled funding from the Bowen Place underpass I can't see this being fixed anytime soon.

Dayum.

It will be interesting to see what sort of priority this is given, yeah. Presumably they could get away with it a bit more than say the western end of LBG bike path system due to generally less commuter traffic?

This weather man... at least it's giving something public servants to talk about I suppose. But sitting on my trainer is getting tre dull.

PP advertise the "best half day ride" around the whole of the lake, including the Duntroon/Dairy Flat Road bit and that path so there might be a bit of power to get it repaired - although i doubt they could do anything cheaply. I wonder if it was just a bad location or a bad design.

Someone on RiotACT suggested the removal of the willows in that area a few years ago could have lead to increased erosion and undercutting of the bank.

Plan was to fix this with the red bridge from Belco shopping centre that is now surplus to requirements. Probably the bridge will still do the job, but the shoring up of the stone wall so that Mooreshead Drive doesn't also slide into the lake will be the problem I fear.

Here's a pic of the proposed installation of the old Belco red bridge.

Also news is a concrete barrier will be installed west bound on Morshead drive and a two way cycle lane put in place until construction is complete.

Nice work ACT Gov't... and paid for by their insurers - win :!:

Will be a bit weird to see that bridge without half a dozen abandoned shopping trolleys underneath it...

Can I assume this is still completely stuffed? Is there a (good) work around at the moment for cyclists?

Was there yesterday and they are constructing a detour up to the road while they fix the path. Currently it is just a partially flattened dirt track but should shortly have some bitumen on it.
