1 I decided in mid Feb to buy my first bike in 30 years (just to get fit) - flat bar hybrid - budget around $5-600.
2 As I had been a time triallist in my youth I decided I didn't like flat bar bikes, so decided on a road bike - upped my budget to $1000.
3 My research indicated that as I had a bad back (old rock climbing injury) I would get a more comfortable ride with a carbon frame - budget went up to $2000.
4 None of the bikes in this price range had wheels suitable for a 110kg rider - allow another $500 or so for Velocity Fusion wheels.
So - the amount I've now spent so far??
Cannondale Synapse Carbon 5 105 (2011) $2000
Velocity Fusion wheels (after trade for Shimano RS20's) $290
Then we decided that my partner needed a bike to do some weekend bikepath riding with me - so:
Giant Cross City 3 (2011) $450
Then I decided that the Synapse wouldn't be any good on bikepaths (I had after all bought it for serious fitness riding!) - so I needed a second bike:
Cannondale Quick 3 (2011) $720
Total so far $3460
And I haven't even started on all the associated gear yet - that comes in the next two weeks
And I'm already planning my first upgrade to the Synapse - an Ultegra Di2 system...... where will it all end
