Shameless plug here. I'm four days into my lap of Tasmania. If you're interested take a look at danteague.tumblr.com

My legs are aching a bit.

I've made it to Strahan. The hail on the road from Rosebury was fun.
Heading to Lake Burbury tomorrow.

Be prepared for all types of weather. Even snow in December. The west coast is wet too.

For some visual impressions, I have photos of three tours of Tasmania here (east coast 2006), here (the Western Explorer) and here (this January's east coast tour).

Tasmania is very hilly and steep, be prepared. Average main road climbs are 10% and often can get up to 15-17%. Ride lots in hilly areas, ensure you have a wide gear range and develop a climbing psyche.

Thanks for the response.
I have added your blogspot into my blog reader.

I have had a quick look at your blogspot and noticed a Surly Long Trucker.
We have done some long distance riding on road bikes, and now are looking to purchase a tour specific bike.
Particularly interested in the Surly Disc Trucker.

Warm Regards

Attached is a link to my touring blog for TAS I did earlier on this year Tasmania 2012. As previously mentioned it is hilly. In my blog there are links to the elevation profiles for the ride. Also if you enjoy camping TAS is a great place to pitch a tent with some great scenery to wake up to.

Also I highly recommend a trip across to Maria Island. Some great walks and plenty of wildlife over there.
