Individuals are responsible for their own scones, I reckon
But I'd be wearing a little vintage number if I had one!
I'm drawing the line at toe straps though.
.....also on the lookout for a vintage jersey this year :D

I'm toying with the idea of coming 'as' a particular rider, matching bike and period jersey. Hopefully my brother will be doing it as well and i might be able to persuade him to do the same. This is a link o've found for vintage look jerseys http://www.cycles-marcarini.com/?mode=m ... age&page=2.

Any ideas on what sort of shoes you wear with toe clips? If i'm going to that level i can't wear ordinary runners :) .

well that depends on your rider of choice and the period.

Well i can't mention the rider as that would give away the identity of the bike, I've been talking to Greg from the local bike shop about it and he wants to know what it is, i'm determined to keep it a secret til the Show :) . Period is early 80s though if that helps.

And does anyone know of a source for 28 x 1 3/8 Westwood rims? I've got a mid 50s Healing on the go for the show but the original rims may not be usable.

if it was the 1980s I would use my Saronni's
(the only thing I share with Giuseppe is the same year of birth  )

OOOhh come on Spinner
I had my toe straps on last time, and I still use them now! if they were good enough for Shaun kelly they are good enough for me. I think it's funny when the other riders laugh at me,I caught up to, and was was riding in a bunch where I didn't know anyone one morning with the old Gitane and I had my Renault jersey on and someone said look out theres "Retro man" I got quite a kick out of it. Pity there are not more like minded people who could ride with me on a regular basis wearing old kit and riding period bikes, I do it all the time cause it's the only gear I have anyway. I now have a 80's Puch mistral as well and I ride them both and love every minute of it!

We've surprised a few of the carbon boys at times.

Buggar
Just my luck. Im off to Kawana waters for the Queensland state dragon boat championship on friday, don't get back home till sunday night. Yeah the carbon boys are Ok I have never had one laugh at me seriously that I know of anyway. There are still a couple of guys from Murwillumbah that still race on steel, so they are not finished yet as a race stead. I would love a nice Bianchi sempre carbon but the money box is empty, all I can do is dream and drool. So i will just soldier on with my relics.

That link confirmed my own search results, nothing even close to my size 50 :( . Mind you my own shoes are 2 yrs old and could wake the dead with the smell, i shudder to think what 20-30yr old shoes would smell like! I've found a few threads that reckon stiff soled plimsolls or brogues will do the job.

nothing even close to my size 50
too big for Dromarti, Quoc Pham and even Reynolds (but may be worth asking)
So have a trip to Hoi an in Vietnam and get a pair made overnight. They trace outline of each of your feet, and made up a custom pair based on the photos I supplied.

I was wondering; would just taking the cleats off my cycling shoes do the trick?
They look about 30 years old. 8)

I still have these. Even the original laces, and my old club jersey is here somewhere
Only issue is the cleats are too worn to grip the pedal and are near impossible to find. I'd bet there are hundreds lying around in old shops and warehouses. Now I just need a bike!
Can I have some of these?

The website looks great, just have to work out how many bikes i will realistically have ready for the show so i can register :) .

@fitz, those cleats are still around, even ones to fit new shoes, i saw some the other night on yellow jersey (though finding it would be pretty tricky, man that site is poorly designed).

Are Campag 8-speed ergo shifters frowned upon for this event or to I have to go friggin' around looking for down-tube shifters and brake levers?

Ergos? You will be accused of being a pretender and a poseur all in the same breath. Better prepare yourself and get the jersey.

Or you could follow my lead from last year and use stem shifters. Or maybe not :) .

Perhaps one of these would fit the bill for smoothing out those roguh roads on the L'Eroica?
