best chain alignment

Having recently got a single speed I thought the chain would be aligned perfectly...
But on the rear its on one side and on the front its on the other side is this normal?
Should it not be perfectly straight?

If you've converted a roadie, there's a few ways around this, invest in a new bottom bracket with a shorter axle (10-11mm should do it) and/or invest in a new crank set, preferably with the option of placing the chainring either side of the crank.

If you're using a converted road wheelset, you should have spacers with the cog on the cassette, then it's as easy as moving them around to get the perfect alignment.
