This is my latest addition, a 1971 Carlton TT Flyer. The frameset is in lovely original condition.

Thanks for the compliments guys! The Carlton frame was from Hilary Stone in the UK. It had a few marks but they all polished off. It must have had little use and I guess was only built up once going on the lack of marks. It has probably sat in somebody's house for 40 years unused. The parts are mostly bits I have been putting aside for a rainy day and are generally in excellent condition. I do have a period NOS chain and freewheel coming to replace the cheap Chinese ones currently fitted. It is also getting a set of the correct early 70s brake cables shortly.

Cheers
Roger

What does everyone think? is this Apollo worth doing up? 105 brakes, derailleurs and headset. dura ace cranks and bb. Original 105 front hub, the back looks like it's been put on after. 'Apollo TEAM' Tange 2 tubings....Paint's a little scracthed...might powder coat it. Thoughts? Worth doing up? Cheers.....

If the frame is straight then it's worth doing up. Rear wheel and stem are cheapie, late additions for sure (I have a rear wheel just like it). Otherwise strip the good stuff and find another frame..
Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

Hi thanks for your response, how do you rate the Tange 2 tubings/frame? I've done some research but it seems like a middle of the range sort - not for racing but fine for everyday riding/commuting. Is this right? Will change the back wheel for sure. Thanks again.

Tange-2 is a top notch tubing. Only fractionally heavier (a few gm) than Tange 1 due to slightly heavier gauges, and the same material. Commonly used in 2nd tier racing frames while Tange 1 was for the premium models, but this was probably more to do with branding (1 vs 2) rather than the "quality" of the tubing. It is every bit as good as Reynolds 531 or Columbus.

experience alone is a good enough reason to do it up, some members are lucky enough to have a large enough parts bin to make it easy, if your on a tight budget then you have to think about what you want from this bike and how much you are prepared to put time effort and money into it, its the difference between a resto and a quick tidy up. Starting a resto thread and asking members for advice and the odd freebie part can make it easy. If you have the patience to do it right then go for it. At the very least, get a new chain, tyre and pedals.
steel is the real deal.

Well, am not set up to really work on restos right now, though would like to in the coming months. In the meantime, I got this one as a possible upgrade from my (mid-90s?) Giant Perigee. Please excuse grotty workplace setting. This one was bought in '99, apparently. Is the cutoff for Retros 2000?

Most of the Raleighs came from eBay UK, Netherlands and Germany, including the 1982 ex team track frame. The TT special was via a Raleigh forum and the 1980 Worksop track bike came from my Brother in NZ.

The Carlton is the first frame I have bought off Hilary.

Nice collection LoveMiyata! The Bosomworth looks like a sweet ride. I'd love to have a functional old roadie like that to add to my collection.

Picked this one up today. Only $30 at the recycling centre (lol). Just needs a seat, brake pads and pedals and the daughter will have no exceuse. She has been bugging me for months that she wanted a ladies frame road bike to upgrade from her BMX.

Welcome to the forum Sonic, post pic's when you can. I don't know my bikes make/builder except it's one of the better aussie made framesets from around 1980.
I didn't think of a close up pic on the first real ride with it but will take one next time I take it out.
