My dad finished the 50k ride today, he was complaining about the same thing.

On Thursday decided to, in the rain, try find out how difficult it would be for me to go up Cootha, I didn't warm up and only had about a 3km ride before starting to climb, I bonked hard and had to stop about 3 times, so I was quite concerned for the Cootha Challenge. Riding today I was very happy and surprised on fresh and warmed up legs I could make it all the way up the Mt. with no breaks, will be interested in my time now. Over the whole 85km I averaged 24km/h.

Just did my first century ride. 102.3km in about 3:50 four big climbs (Bobbin Head East, Bobbing Head West, Galston Gorge West, Berowra Waters East). 1520m climbing.

Did it as part of the Bobbin Head Cycle Classic, and tacked the 2 gorges onto it to round out the 100km. Boy my legs were hurting coming up Berowra waters... Shattered now, but would be fun to give it another go one day when the stars line up and I can string that many hours together :roll:

Well done Ozkaban - that's a huge ride. A friend of mine did that ride yesterday too - sounds like hard work. I hope to get out there and do this one day soon :)

LOL I read the first post, and my current achievement doesn't sound noob, it's just done by a noob :D

Did the Tour de Hills century in 3.5 hours, around 28.5km/h average, plus I rode there are back from my house. An extra 28 kms! :roll: Logged another 170<?> commuting earlier in the week as well... I think I'll claim this as a 300km week, and my first century as well. Previous biggest day was 80 clicks :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

I decided to stop vegging on the iPad and decided to go for a ride, at midday, in 30 degree heat.

Did my first 50km ride ever! Average speed was only 22kph but it includes a few traffic light stops and got lost twice (hence the distance!).

My feet got hotspots, my hands are numb (I get numb hands on the hoods, don't know why), my back hurts and my legs are sore. But I'm happy with my achievement!

Can I call that my first half century ride or is that reserved for miles and not kilometers?

Cycling is a Euro dominated osport, so achievements are measured in metric.

I did my first 50 km ride up there too. Cairns to Palm Cove. It's a nice run.

Followed it up with my first crash on Tuesday. :cry:

Did my second 100 yesterday... :)

I probably saw you then :)

The only issue I have with Cairns is the number of dodgy crossing points such as slip roads etc. it's hard enough without being a beginner at clipping and unclipping!

But the Palm Cove run is really nice. They do group rides to Ellis Beach then back again. We also have some bastard climbs which is good for training!

Yes, I'm looking forward to doing some of the climbs bred from unwed mothers when I come up at the end of May.
I was planning on doing the Tableland loop, but if I end up doing the HIM, I will probably skip it. Not really a taper ride.
Even so, I will do some of the fun stuff. You have a ton of great rides there. I got my bike at Trinity Cycles actually.

I'm aiming to do the Cardiac Challenge in September. If I can master the Copperlode Dam road then I'm sorted!

Previously:
Forecast = chance of showers;
View out window = cloudy;
Conclusion = better not ride, I might get wet later.
Today:
Forecast = heavy rain;
View out window = yeah, it's raining;
Conclusion = it's not too heavy, I can still ride.

First high speed stack :cry:
Good news is bike is okay, bad news is i have little to show for my pain - ribs the sorest and i was hoping for some bruising to brag about, but no joy.

Coming down the Razorback (Mt Morgan. CQ) when young bloke in front of me took the wrong line (and so did i :oops: ) and wound up wide, just off the road but he got back on. He obviously become what i was looking at, then his father became what i was looking at as he sailed past me on a worse line, off the road into long grass, flexible guide post, rocks and culvert (both wheels stuffed, cracked rib, sore knee, grazes and bruising). My outcomes included; helmet - stuffed, cracked badly in places, ribs ok, musuclar rather than bone, some grazes and scratches and the odd little bruise. Garmin max speed on descent was 84.7km/hr (another milestone, my fastest) but had washed off a bit of speed prior to rapidly stopping. And that's what hurt, the sudden stop :D

This could have easily been some much worse than the outcome we got. I was back on the bike yesterday for a test - only the bumps hurt.

What did i do wrong? Poor line into the corner (obviously) and the case of monkey see monkey do - looking at what was happening, not focusing on where i should have been going. Oh, and a strong possibly of a confusion between ambitions and capabilities :D

We laugh about it now..... albeit carefully

I'll bet the "wrong line" was too early an entry, which sets up for running wide on the exit.
I've been doing a few descents in the wet lately, on nasty winding bumpy roads, and it's really made aware of the need to "own the road" on descents, much more so than on ascents.
You need the whole lane, and use it like a racer would. Late apex is the key to room on the exit.
Read some Keith Code for more on this.

Um, he crashed (no mech failure), must have done something wrong.
