Nine reasons to not ride to work ...
Postby Aushiker » Wed Apr 04, 2012 11:58 pm
1. It’s too dangerous.
2. You have to wear a tie to work. Or a suit. Or a skirt.
3. You have to go to the gym after/before work.
.... balance in the posting linked to above

Cycling gear is good for range of motion, sweat wicking and all that sort of thing .. change the shoes (if you happen to wear shoes with cleats) and you're pretty much in gym gear anyway.. some people are just lazy!

I find it mildly amusing that people really do trot this one out (and I have heard it). People going to the gym for Zoomba or aerobics or similar aero workouts. Or SPIN even!!!!Aushiker wrote:Stolen from adventure journal

I would think that the use of a bike would do the same in the same amount of time and for a lot less cost if need be. Weird.
Even if the gym is not just for aerobics - I used to do a serious heavy weights workout on the way home. The ride from work to the gym meant I cut out the warm up. The longer ride home after the gym meant that I did not bother with the warm down nor the obligatory spa and sauna.

I find it amusing too - I also find it amusing that one "work mate" who did a spin class regularly said it was harder that riding. Could be true still but when she bought a mid range roady and came for a ride with me where it was flat and couldn't maitain a 23 km/h ave I am not convinced. I dion't think she is either as she stopped gym when she bought her bike.ColinOldnCranky wrote:I find it mildly amusing that people really do trot this one out (and I have heard it). The other thing I find amusing is the way some of the gym members at the local pool (where my kids have swimming) will nearly come to blows over parking 10m closer to the door for no good reason (like if it is raining). Aren't they there for execise

Yes very good article.
The tie bit is also good but then not many office people in Brisbane where ties only CEOs and suck ups
