Race Uniforms

Postby ouderblade » Sun Mar 11, 2012 1:00 pm

Hi All, I am just wondering about what clothing we can use during races in NSW.

My club has a uniform that a lot of people wear, but the cycling shops in town also have kits that they wear.

Can i just buy something online and wear it for races, or does it have to be registered with Cycling NSW ?

From CNSW

a) The competitors, their uniforms and other clothing shall be neat and clean at least at the beginning of an Event.
b) Racing jerseys without sleeves shall be forbidden.
c) Race clothing conforming to those colours and design, registered, as State, Club, Group or Individual Sponsorship Colours shall only be permitted.
d) No item of clothing shall hide the competitor‟s number.
e) Only transparent rain capes shall be authorised.

It's wearable if you belong to that club or team, not otherwise. If you don't have a club kit, then wear plain colour.

UCI will fine protour riders who want to work on their tan.
Club kit is required for opens... Don't think it is so strict for club races.

That rule was brought in quite a few years ago. I know when it came in we had to enforce it at our local cycling club where I was one of the club commissaries.

Robbie McEwen was turned away from a Gold Coast club (he's a club member, too!) race quite a few years ago when he turned up in a sleeveless jersey...

I know my club (Balmoral) also rigorously enforces the rule.

As for which jersey - at club level, its pretty much a free-for-all when it comes to colours. But at Opens, its yoru club jersey or a 'plain coloured' jersy. Have seen a few people at Opens have to wear their jersey inside-out after turning up in World Tour jerseys...

I think that if you are a member of a club and are racing in inter club or open events then it is a sign of respect to the club you are supporting to wear their kit.
I bought my jersey a couple of weeks ago with inter club in mind and wore it yesterday for a normal club meet. Feels good.. :D
How do you like them ******* apples???

Agree, it is respectable to wear club uniform, a matter of pride.

I can think of 2 clubs where the club jersey is seriously ugly... They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder

IMO, whatever you wear, do NOT wear a kit for a team that you are not a member of.
Our team kit is registered and also has the logo for our club on it.
This is the kit that I wear 100% of the time when racing club or open events.

Sleeveless jerseys are under no circumstances to be employed, see Rule #7

You need to be a member of the club or of the team to wear the jersey.
If your LBS jersey is a registered Sponsors jersey, you need to be included in the list of riders sponsored by your LBS, or whoever's jersey it is.
Penalties range from refused start, to fines or suspensions (unlikely, but possible).

Kev.
