yeah, tons of rabbits out this morning. None very fast, but strung out nicely so you have someone to chase the whole way up :D

wasn't there a time trial run up the front way this morning??

Seem to remember an email about it....either that or the big numbers due to it being a final hit out before the challenge

yeah, if I'd made it out of bed earlier I probably would have done it. Not sure what sort of numbers it pulled.

Can post my times now for this morning:
10:59 and 11:49

can't believe I did a 10 after riding the last 4 days :D

and agreed about the spacing of the bunnies. definitely no speed but plenty to keep me interested, hence the 10:59.

New to this forum, I finally cracked a 9, with only 4 days left of 2011.
Best of 9m50, need to get back there but have been opting for longer kms at higher intensity lately for something different.
I like the longer mountainbike races in Vets or B grade.

I've only done it one year... and it was rainy. There wasn't anyone on the hill who didn't have to be there. However... I'm told if it's a nice day there are lots of people lining the hill cheering people on. So, you might find yourself doing quite a bit better on the day. ;) Also, last year they cut the timing at the top just a little short of the crest which was more like the strava time - or 10-15 seconds better. ;)

strava says 10:42 but I can't work out the start/stop points.
I'll be using the lap timing on the bike for the 0 and 2.29 points so I know. the rest is all fud.
hard work trying to keep the heart rate down this morning (and for the rest of the week)

That specialized challenge is going to kill someone!

I rode up it on a mtb for the first time today. Once up the bitumen and once up this wicked trail at 20% grade! :o

Hi guys, another Coot-tha newbie here.. Sorry if a thousand ppl have asked this already, but where exactly is the start and finish of the climb where everyone is timing themselves? I asked a few people when I was there, but still not sure…

I’m guessing the start is at the Simpson’s road fork? (couldn’t see any paint on the road?).

And finish is at the crest, just passed the first antenna on the right? (couldn’t see any paint there either).

I’m hoping that’s right.. for that part I took I took 11:30 for my first attempt – hopefully it’s not much further?

Yeh the start is just a couple of meters past the simpsons rd fork, there are markings (well there was last time I was there), they are only small yellow markings on the far left hand side of the road - not a full line across the road or anything. Its just after the small road that goes to the left of the main road, opposite simpsons rd, to a car park for walkers. The finish is up past channel 10 then you go past ABC I think, there's a steep climb past ABC and there's a short almost flat bit to get to the true crest, there is another yellow marking on the road there. Its about 2.29km.

11:30 is fantastic for a first attempt.

Thanks Inthewoods, I wasn't too far off.. I'll keep an eye out for the finish line next time and watch the distance too. I've been practicing on Mt Gravatt a bit lately which I think has helped.

I can't believe someone did 20 laps??

yeah it has been pretty great :)

I was 3 seconds off a PR up the front today... and I reckon I had at least 15 seconds left in the legs, just hadn't planned on going hard so I'd been taking it easy. Might have to go full gas sometime this week and see how I go :D

Another beautiful day this morning! 8)

4 laps for me.. the first i went way too hard and came within a whisker of puking at the top.. Although it was a PB 10:49 I was very inefficient and think it ruined me for the next laps.. 11:45, 11:49, 12:01.

I wish people wouldn't leave their McDonalds bags/wrappers by the side of the road.. makes me want to puke even more

is that from marker to marker?
if so, great effort. 4 laps is giving it a good crack (never done more than 2 myself)

Yep, that's marker to marker. Finally found them :)
I had a 5min lie down at the top under a tree after each lap to bring my heartrate down.. not sure if that's cheating when dooping laps?

Do you find the second lap easier than the first?

easy is relative. For me, it's never as quick (best I've done is about 30 seconds difference) so going a bit slower does make it feel a little easier

i have a break after each climb - I'm the one (!) slumped over my handlebars
