I should be able to make another appearance. I might even bring a bike with some gears and a freewheel this time.

I’m in but will wait a couple of weeks before registering. The Repco is good to go again :D but unfortunately the engine needs a bit of work :( . Nothing that more riding and less eating won’t cure.

The show ‘n’ shine last year was great – looking forward to it.

Guys,

Hamster is starting out today on a serious ‘get fit’ campaign. If I succeed then I’ll be doing the full course again. However, if I fail then shamefully I’ll be reduced to doing the shorter ride.

My question is if I register for the full 115 kms would I be able to do the shorter ride but only if I remain looking like the Michelin Man.

I'm thinking of possibly driving up for the weekend from Sydney, petrol will be $100 to drive up and $100 to drive back.... anyone keen on sharing? Can fit up to 3 bikes on the back and room for 3 other people depending on whether my partner wants to come for a drive so I'll say 2 others, possibly 3. If anyone is interested let me know. Up on the Friday, back on the Monday.

From Sydney?! That's the spirit mate, worth a few bonus points for sure! I was about to ask if you couldn't find some cheap flights for less than $200 but the luggage cost might get you.

you know what? its not that bad.... worst airline to get stung on is prolly tiger.

qantas - all passengers are allowed 32Kg of check luggage for all tickets...just bring the box, check it in oversized items and you're set...not sure if its changed or not now.
jetstar/virgin - when you book tickets on jetstar/virgin website, select fair and then get checked in up to 20KGs (around an extra $18 at jetstar) and also check it in at oversized items.
tiger - flat $80 dollar extra on top of fair for extra large sports luggage (includes all sports equipment, golf clubs, bikes, and other !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !!).

I remember going to Melbourne a few years ago for a MTB race and having to subtly hold one end of the bike box to keep it under the allowable max :D . If you had more than one bike though...

The get fit campaign is progressing. I’m down 1.6 kg :D but there is a looooooong way to go. With no junk food and no unnecessary snacks plus of course regular cycling I should make it.

There is no possibility of me being first or even in the lead pack, but just finishing is sufficient  .

I'm kinda keen on the drive anyway... I've done the drive from Perth to Adelaide to Melbourne and Sydney with bikes on the back but havnt been to Brisbane yet and I love country drives so my preference is driving but I'll see how I go :D I'm more concerned about accommodation costs to be quite honost :|

I've been trying to put the bite on Australis Resort, which is just across the road from Noosa Marina, for some sort of accomodation deal; to no avail so far
The good news is that it's low season, so prices are at their lowest.... a studio apartment is $105 pn for 2 nights or $95 pn for 3 nights.
Depends what sort of thing you are after; there are also backpackers' not far away.
I'll check with a mate who has just taken over management of a caravan park & see what he can do 8)

another possibility is to rent a homestay/house for the weekend
eg: http://www.stayz.com.au lists a few houses you can rent for a day, a weekend, or a week. if theres half a dozen guys all chipping in, suddenly there's a party! ahem, i mean, suddenly there's cheap accommodation. 8)

A few of us rented a house in Byron for a cycling weekend a while back.
Worked out pretty cheap & we had a ball. :D
The only issue was having to put up a bond 8)
