Hi All,
I'm taking an international guest for a ride on ANZAC Day next week and he's keen to do some hills, but I also want to take in the scenery and have a good spot for lunch afterwards.
So I was just looking at a nice little route Yarra Glen - Kinglake - Toolangi - Healsville - Yarra Glen. http://g.co/maps/c555q
However! It has a 10km section along a road/track I don't know - Buttermans Track, between Yarra Glan and St. Andrews. I've picked this route cause I'm not that keen to ride Eltham Rd. all the way to kangaroo ground then back up to Kinglake!
Does anyone know if this road is ok to ride on a road bike? How nasty is it?
Also, I've nominated the ride direction up Kinglake, then down from Toolangi to Healsville because I love the descent toward Healsville...
Any thoughts on the route appreciated!

Yeah, hard to tell. I think you're right.
I think I may be in luck with Clintons Road though - about 8km west.

On Nearmap, Buttermans is only sealed for about 3.4km outside St Andrews as far as Rangeview Rd. At the other end Skyline is unsealed. You can take Wisemans instead but it is steeper

Yep, Clinton's Rd is sealed from Watson's Creek to Panton Hill Road- very tight and twisty in places with a few steeper short kicks - a quiet laneway but watch for cars as it's a 1.5 carriageway width for most of it's length.

Planning to ride early to avoid traffic, but will take due care. Thanks for the extra info!

It's a lovely ride, part sealed these days but still some gravel (good because it keeps most traffic off it). Certainly not a "dirt track". Very scenic, pleasant and not too hilly, but there is a short steep climb at the Skyline Rd end.
