Apollo Decals

Hi,

Am looking to restore my Apollo IV road bike and was wondering if anyone knows where I could source original decals, copies or get copies made up?

I've asked Cyclomondo about Apollo decals before... must be too downmarket for him, 'cos he doesn't sell 'em.

Cyclomondo is the man for classic European stuff and he has a helluva international reputation.

However he is not the man to go to for local stuff like Apollo, Repco, etc. Google for Hicks Sign Company, they're somewhere in QLD. Glyn Hicks is a BMX and dragster nut and does a lot of repro decals for them. Give him a chase up.

Have you tried contacting Apollo directly?

I recently made contact with Repco for some stickers, but they didn't have the retro ones I needed. They sent me a bunch of the more current ones instead...

@Rustychisel, I been around. Have found a somewhat 'local' site similar to this one I believe you also joined.
@Droid, perhaps I will do, looks like the strip and repaint is going to happen sooner rather than later.
The frame may be the only original components left (and the biopace rings), I may convert the rest to dura ace, including the 10 speed downtube shifters.

I've sent an email off to Apollo, asking them for assistance, so far for Concorde, IV and V decals. I'll let all know what I come up with.

I'm after decals for 2 concordes, a vitesse and a toledo. I'll send an email to Apollo themselves as well, but i'll definitely be chasing up that hicks guy, i need a fair few decals which i doubt will be available (Southern Cross, Tom Wallace or Europa anyone?)

So when i get a chance i'll have a crack at scanning pics of the decals into some kind of program and touching them up (it would cost a heck of a lot to get the signwriters to do that job).

Would it? It used to be that you could get a heck of a lot from a painter in an hour but I 'spose its getting harder to find signwriters that wet a brush.

I was going to redraw them in vector format to make it easier and cleaner to have reproduced. I will start this soon as I have my bike in the 'oven' curing.

When i first started talking to a local signwriter about reproducing Tom Wallace decals from a low res photo i had, it was going to cost $60 a set with the redrawing they would have to do. After a bloke put up scans of an unused set on another forum though, they were able to print straight from those scans for less than half that price. I'm guessing it would be a similar story if i present them with a high res picture of damaged decals.

I think i've found what i need, pixlr.com. Some of the decals on my III are damaged, if i take a good res photo of it and upload it, that website has a bunch of features like MS Paint, so it should be pretty easy to fill in any gaps from scratches. Saves getting the signwriter to do it at $88/hr. And i'm not sure but it may be able to flatten out stickers so that it looks flat instead of curved around the tube (if that makes sense).
