nothing to change except the cassette.
leave the spacer on the hub thats already between the cassette and the spokes where it is.

I did this about 6 mths ago and needed one spacer of the two that came in the ultegra packaging.
From memory it was because the ultegra cassette has a recessed space on the wheel side, and the 105 doesn't.

Both 105 and Ultegra 10 speed cassette's only need 1 spacer on the hub side unless you are using Mavic wheels which need their own spacer plus the Shimano.
What Pawpaw is on about 2 spacers for Ultegra only he would know.

You sure?... the big fat mavic spacer and if you are running 10 speed shimano there will be (or should be) the thin shim as well.
Mavic Ksyrium Equipe's you run ...
-Mavic spacer with shimano shim on 10 speed shimano cassettes...no shim on 9 speed.
-Remove Mavic spacer if you have a Mavic cassette.
-No spacer needed with Campag freewheel body / cassette.

There's a 5700 and a 6700, both of which are 10 speed. Hopefully it's obvious their differences can result in a need for variable spacer numbers, on some freehubs, if you don't want to adjust limit screws and indexing.

Yes. Just has the spacer that comes with the Shimano cassette. Unless there the Magic spacer is stuck on the free wheel and I haven't noticed it.

I'm putting on a MTB XT cassette on a Shimano road freehub. The instructions say that the wheels are 8, 9 and 10 speed compatable with a 1mm spacer on a 10 speed cassette. I tried to tighten the lock ring to 40Nm but it came off and some tiny bits of thread were floating around. :o I'd say that the lock ring did not engage enough threads to work properly. When I don't use the 1mm spacer it tightens normally, but there is a very tiny amount of play. Should the cassette have absolutely no play?

If it's a 9-speed XT cassette then you don't need a spacer. If it's 10-speed you do. There should only be a tiny degree of play when tightened correctly.

I meant to say it was a 10 speed cassette. I don't think that there is a way to make it work with a spacer so it looks as though I will have to live with a bit of play. it's not much - only a slight wiggle.

Thanks.
