2012 Giro d'Italia

Michele Scarponi for the win. Frank might have a look in because pretty much no-one else is in form and riding it. Basso-no-no.

Now, to arrange my RAI subscription.

The Giro is the best tour. So hard to pick this year but I'm saying Cunego, he seemed to be coming to form with Kreuzinger a strong challenger if he can get time on the punchier stages prior to Stelvio day. That will be the day, can't wait. :D

He was off-the-back on the climb that Garobski (name?) won on the Tour of Turkey.

I kind of forgot about the Jockey, he is clearly riding well. Gadret? Haven't seen him this year, but he did well last year.

I think Kreuziger has a good shot but Basso will probably take it. The other guys I like the look of as outsiders for a top 5 are Klodi and Hesjedal and Cunego to top 3.

Wide open race, Basso has struggled just like last year but it would surprise me to see him build form through the race and the really decisive stages all being at the back end of the race he could do it. Kreuziger is in a bit of form but for some reason cant see him winning this one, dont think he has the legs to go with the climbers on the really steep long stuff. Scarponi for me seems the one most likely if you look at form and past performances, good classics and won last year*. To me the the TTT is going to be really exciting shame SBS isn't showing it as i reckon it will be GreenEdge's first GT win.

*if you count last year

Fronk is learning from his sibling, Abondonandy andamking excuses already for his Giro ride.
“I don’t want to look for excuses, but since I’m replacing Jakob and this frankly wasn’t predicted, it’s not exactly the best preparation,” Schleck said. “Fortunately, the first ten days aren’t very hard and I’ll have to use those opening stages to gradually get into the race. But after ten days, I’ll know how my body is reacting.”

So week one is a lot of flat and some medium mountains. Cav, is he the one for the first week? Fast flat finishes, I can't see anyone beating him, except, no recent form. So many stars seem out of form this year.

I think 1 or 2 GC contenders will say goodbye to their hopes right there in Denmark. Stage 2 could be flat (stage 3 not so) but it's quite windy there pretty much all the time and on a really windy day, you can't ride your bike straight. If conditions are right, 2-3 teams will blow the whole thing up into pieces.

Horsens, Strandpromenaden - flat, flat, flat wide finish. Who do you think that will suit? With a 800m to 1km straight, flat lead in. Did I mention flat.

Cav and crash.

Then a huge bus trip to Verona. I back the BMC team bus for this stage

There was a lot of jossling/bumping last night, no place for the fainthearted so I can't tip Tyler. Cavendouche from Goss again. Renshaw as the outside tip coz he thrives on that stuff.
