Clean Bike SyndromeDoes anyone know how many times you can clean your bike without using it before it starts to wear or your diagnosed as having a mental illness ?

Re: Clean Bike SyndromeMine gets a full clean about every 500km, unless it is wet, then a wash down after the ride but probably leave the drivetrain. I ride with guys who practically do a full dismantle after each ride.

That's when I clean mine...
Re: Clean Bike SyndromeSeriously considering putting one out in the rain today to sit for a minute or too just to see how it performs in the wet.

Re: Clean Bike Syndrome
I am never bored. I can always clean my ROAD bike if nothing else to do which is like a meditation for me......plus the inspection I do simultaneously gives me the confidence to ride more aggressively when required. I do a 10 minute clean at least once a week these days - whip the wheels off and use weak detergent and warm water to clean the frame, kero rag on the drive train, and both on the wheels. No hose. and a quick tweak of the rear derailleur if required. Always keeping an eye out for loose bolts, tire wear, rims, spoke eyelets and spokes, brake pads, and chain links for stress fractures etc.

Re: Clean Bike Syndrome
love too really, The boss/wife forbids it , until the Dr says I can. Two weeks of nothing. Help! Maybe I should change the tyres to an wet weather brand to handle the rain. I am just very bored . Board Rider

Re: Clean Bike SyndromeI clean mine after every ride with some showroom spray on glaze called Aussie Gold. (the biodegradable stuff, not silicone or abrasive based). Applied with a clean microfibre chamois/towel and the paint comes up sparkling. http://www.aussiegoldcarcare.com.au/Paintcare.htm
I brought my bike back from The Bike Station yesterday after a service on the back of the car in the rain which annoyed me no end, but when I got it home, I towelled it off gently as best I could, waited to it was fully dry and applied the showroom glaze to remove any water marks left on and did a full bike check while I was at it. I was a bit bored last night too, but it makes me feel good taking care of something really nice. Cheers

Clean Bike SyndromeI do a quick clean with baby wipes, a rag on the drive train and a relube when it starts looking dirty or the drivetrain gets noisy. Maybe every couple of weeks? Big clean with car wash, brushes, wheels off and a chain cleaner a few times a year.

Re: Clean Bike Syndromemine gets ridden in the rain and on dirt and has white paint.
as soon as its been cleaned it starts getting dirty again, so who cares really. too busy riding it. if i get killed while out on my bike i dont want a 'memorial ride' by random punters i have never met.
Re: Clean Bike Syndrome
Having a bucket load of baby wipes in the house, I tried them out. Amazed at how well they take grease, oil marks and general scunge off. Wouldn't replace a major wash, but great for most inbetween. Thanks for the tip. 2011 Orbea Onix | Giant Defy Commuter | Giant XTC 29er
Clean Bike SyndromeCan't agree more about baby wipes! They're brilliant and you actually don't need to use too many of them.
