Re: Giro TasmaniaHi,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am new to touring. Have booked flights and ferry crossings to tour Tasmania in December. Interested in hearing from anyone interested in passing on any helpful info re touring Tasmania. bakerawj
Giro TasmaniaBe prepared for all types of weather. Even snow in December. The west coast is wet too.

You will find some useful information in my Giro Tasmania tour journal. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
Re: Giro TasmaniaFor some visual impressions, I have photos of three tours of Tasmania here (east coast 2006), here (the Western Explorer) and here (this January's east coast tour).
Tasmania is very hilly and steep, be prepared. Average main road climbs are 10% and often can get up to 15-17%. Ride lots in hilly areas, ensure you have a wide gear range and develop a climbing psyche. Last edited by il padrone on Wed May 02, 2012 9:59 am, edited 1 time in total.
Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: Giro Tasmania
Thanks for the response. I have added your blogspot into my blog reader. I have had a quick look at your blogspot and noticed a Surly Long Trucker. We have done some long distance riding on road bikes, and now are looking to purchase a tour specific bike. Particularly interested in the Surly Disc Trucker. Warm Regards bakerawj
Re: Giro TasmaniaAttached is a link to my touring blog for TAS I did earlier on this year Tasmania 2012. As previously mentioned it is hilly. In my blog there are links to the elevation profiles for the ride. Also if you enjoy camping TAS is a great place to pitch a tent with some great scenery to wake up to.
Also I highly recommend a trip across to Maria Island. Some great walks and plenty of wildlife over there. - Brian
