Re: BNA Losers Club 2012Been lurking around and not viited here for a while... saw the 2011 edition and feel I should make the effort, work as a FIFO so only able to bike on the road half the year but still have a good gym to keep up the good work while I am away.
Presently as at 23rd April 2012 105.9kg and 1.82m. Set myself an initial target of 95kg and then I can buy myself a road bike and stop using my Hybrid!! Now I have the goal.. I better get after it.
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
Good luck!
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
Good luck mate! I jumped on the scales (found them last week!) after this morning's ride and saw 106.9kgs. Finally making some progress. Just ticked over 1,000km for the year so far, but haven't been as disciplined with the eating as I should. I'm 5-8kgs lighter (according to other people's scales I was 112-115kgs) than i was in January though. Goal is to get to 96kgs by September. That's how much I weighed when we got married 10 years ago. If I can achieve that, the long term goal is something in the 80's... I'm 188cm and just turned 38yo. Litespeed Tuscany with SRAM Force and Open Pros - soon!
BNA Losers Club 2012Ok then... add me into this group.
After about 10 years off the bike, I’ve decided last week to start doing the commute and bought myself my first ever road bike (2012 CAAD 10 5 105 63) will pick it up this weekend. Wasn’t keen on taking the old hardtail MTB on the 30K round trip. I’m 34 years old, 198cm tall and I started in November 2011 at 118.9kg As of April 2012 I’m at 108.7kg. I’ve dropped the first 10 reasonably easy, but since the new year the exercise and diet have not been going too well. I don’t know how, but I’ve been able to keep the weight off. My first goal is to get down to 98.9kg for a 20kg loss and be in double figures. I hope to be there in about 3months or so. Then my next goal is to be under 91kg... (which is the amateur boxing heavyweight limit) A weight I once was at when I was at my fittest about 10 years back, boxing, riding the MTB regularly on single trails and doing the Uni commute. (See the correlation there?) If all goes to plan, by this time next year I should be at the final target weight. Which is a good thing, as my brother is turning 40 in June 2013 and wants to do Kokoda before his birthday. It’s good to put this all on record somewhere... as I feel it’ll help in achieving my targets.
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
+1 It's amazing how much motivation you get from not letting down people you have never met and probably never will!!!! But it works Good luck argon
Re: BNA Losers Club 201294.1kg this morning. It’s the lightest I’ve been in at least 13 years.
My wife has never known me at this weight. My wedding ring doesn’t fit and it can’t be resized as it’s titanium 2012 Oppy A4 | 200x Hard tail Kona Blast Deluxe
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
Mate wait until you have to re-buy your entire wardrobe like I have. In hindsight the mistake I made was buying stuff along the way. Still when your waist shrinks by a foot it can be hard to get by... Anyway, I'm another couple of hundred in the hole after the myer sale yesterday ... the justification was I need more than one pair of jeans and a jumper for winter... and I won't get any lighter. Told the wife if I do I'll just drink beer and eat ice-cream until I get back to this weight. It would be a tough call to say whether I've spent more on cycling clothes or normal clothes in my two years of riding. Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012New clothes
As much fun as it is getting to a smaller size, every 4-6 months I end up looking like a kid who is wearing his dad's clothes. Easiest way is to buy 1 pair of pants at current size and 1 pair next size down - lets me spread the wear!! Trouble is I have had to pass on some clothes purchased in the last 18months that are hardly used (I am a tight arse!!) The other thing is that I will not keep bigger sized clothes - once I have gone down I am determined not to go back up "ever" and having bigger clothes is a trap for allowing gradual weight gain. Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
I didn't realise new born's had such I high calorie count...... Good luck with the birth
BNA Losers Club 2012I'm closing in on 85 kilos after starting at around 92.
The nearer I get to my target the harder and slower it is but I'm starting to notice some changes...some of those tight fitting T shirts are starting to look less like sausage skins now! Never underestimate the power of ignorance
BNA Losers Club 2012You had me thinking of "the road" there
Yeah, new babies can be hard work!... Good luck. Slowing my diet down... Think I was walking a fine line between losing too much which is great... But also feeling too much fatigue before a really hard month of racing. Problem is after this month is over it is 4 star hotels for a month all payed for... Luckily there will be lots of exercise involved at the same time Fingers crossed!.

Re: BNA Losers Club 201216/4 – 98.3
23/4 – 95.9 30/4 – 96.0 Last week I gained 100 grams, not a particularly big deal but a move in the wrong direction. The exercise is going along ok (179 kms on the bike and 65 laps of the pool) plus the calorie intake has been well down. I feel that the reason was that I ate a fair amount of salty foods and consequently I was retaining water. Since Monday I’ve lost 400 grams so I suspect that my water theory might be correct. With a little luck my next weigh-in will show a BIG loss. It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
Can definately agree that sugar is much worse for you than fat. Hopefully starting the riding next week but been in the gym since last june. The times I have noticed weight loss was when i cut sugar and Bad carbs ie excessive bread pasta and white rice. Ridley x-Fire 2012
BNA Losers Club 2012Dropped 4kg in last month. 67 down to 63kg. Pretty hard to drop weight at my height as I am not fat anyway but felt quite poorly last week or so.
Might not go as hard at it for a while . Peripheral vision went blurry the other day, hadn't ate all day and by 3pm felt crappy. Not dieting , just too busy at work to stop and eat which is pretty bloody stoopid !
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
From the reading I have done Dextrose is a very rapidly digested sugar. Great post the gym for me or post/ during a ride as it will replace muscle glycogen stores very quickly once depleted. If they are not depleted can be stored very easily as fat. For a slower burning sugar good pre excercise maltodextrin also I think used by brewers is a better option. Ridley x-Fire 2012
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012Sorry happy to have my previous replies moved to an evil sugar threahd hehe
As far as weighing in, Bike arrives next week and the commuting begins. Will be starting at 6ft and 115kg aiming to get to a strong 100 to 105. Looking at getting back into rugby so cant imagine getting below 100 but time will tell. If i can lose the spare tyre I'll be happy Ridley x-Fire 2012
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012There sure are some big guys out there ! And making good progress too.
I turned 55 in August 2010 at 86kgs and got back into regular cycling after a fairly slack 10-15 years or so. My 'fit' weight used to be low 70s, so -15kgs is my ultimate target. Nothing changed for 3 months while I built some base fitness back again and worked my kms up to about 120 per week. Then I suddenly improved and distances rose as well. I dropped 6kgs in the next 3 months. I hovered around 79-79 then dropped to a minimum of about 77 in July last year after some serious cycling including a trip to France. Since then I've done all sorts of riding (inc lots of hills and 100+ rides) and now average 200kms per week but am back around 79kgs and just stuck there for the moment. I think I need to watch what I eat now. Exercise makes you hungry and it can be a trap.
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
Thats the truth. The biggest thing is not to use computer/heart rate monitors/spread sheets or whatever as an estimate of calories burned and an excuse to eat more than you need. If I do a 60km+ ride I will only had an extra 200 calories for the day to the 1600 that I would normally have (1800) maybe go to 2000 calories if really tough. Re: BNA Losers Club 2012
I don't count calories/kilojoules at all - might have to start But I'd prefer to just eat/drink(alcohol) a little less and cut down on some of the rubbish. Hopefully that'll lose me a few kgs.
Re: BNA Losers Club 2012Hello all,
Some of you might remember a few weeks ago I reported in on a 30kg weight loss. One of my concerns was that I was doing a Mediterranean cruise on the Silver Cloud and I was worried about weight gain. Well let me say, we've only been on the ship for 10 days and last night I couldn't do my jacket up. I'm not sure what I've put on but it would be a few kg for sure. It's so hard to be good when the cruise is all inclusive I'm sitting typing this at Marseilles at the south of France (bragging rights) and as my wife said, I'd board the ship as a passenger and leave it as cargo Better go now because it's almost time to eat again. I hate the thought of getting home and having to face the dreaded bathroom scales. Cheers. There are only two types of cyclist.
Those that have crashed and those that are about to.
