Apparently there are copies and there are copies. These ones seem pretty close to the Superflash in brightness so that will suit me. Got two coming for $10.

Apparently there are copies and there are copies. These ones seem pretty close to the Superflash in brightness so that will suit me. Got two coming for $10.

I finally got a light that I feel will alert my presence to more than just those within a few degrees of directly behind me.

For my recent 60th birthday my sister and bro-in-law gave me a voucher to bianchi cycles and I walked out with a Light & Motion Vis 360 helmet mount head and tail light. I stitched it onto some elasticised banding and it works a treat. Most importantly it has a fair spread left and right of good intense flashing.

It was great riding in the rain on a country road on the weekend with a feeling of security.

I find more value in those approaching my space seeing me than ultra powerful forward beams (though I have that as well).

Once you've ridden with a bright and safe rear light - you won't go back to the small ones.

I have a DiNotte rear light and it is super bright.

It will be interesting to see if they are more waterproof than the proper PB version. The couple I had used to stop working or only worked sporadically when little more than a dark cloud used to come by.

Cut an old tube about 20mm in width. Pull it over the light around the joint between the front and rear make sure out covers the switch. This works well in wet weather.

Ridiculously bright, I didn't realise how bright until tonight.

Thought about pointing towards the ground a little, but doesnt that defeat the purpose of having a bright light?

No it doesn't Rex, not with thecurrent generation of retina burning leds, get the angle right and you create a big red puddle of red around the rear of the bike.

Makes me wonder what is more effective, a bright light pointing towards the floor,
or a lesser bright light but using its full potential.

Its interesting we all talk about lights needing to brighter and brighter, and when we discover its to bright, ow, just point it to the floor..
I am just wondering with all these bright lights on the market today, when is it enough ??

Adjustable is best. Bright during the day, at dusk and riding into the sun; toned down for night riding. Brighter light sources also mean the light can still be useful if dispersed over a greater angle too.

DiNotte rear light has three STEADY ON brightness settings and three different FLASH settings ... check them out!

I have been quite impressed with the Smart Lunar R2 lights...
I have a Dinotte which is 3 watts, has low, med and high on steady mode, 3 different flash modes and uses recharable batteries, so is a very versatile and reliable, but is also quite expensive. These Smart Lunar R2 are light and bright and cheap and easily removed if leaving the bike unattended, and I think are a very great value for the price. They seem to be very visible during the day or night when I have been following riders.
