My bent commute experience

Postby Baalzamon » Wed May 02, 2012 2:22 pm

Well yesterday I took the plunge and road my new trike to work, my Ice Adventure FS HD.
Might I say drivers were extremely good. I was given very wide berth along with waiting for me if there was islands in the middle of the road. This is much more room than what I'd get if I was commuting with panniers on a DF. Did have to go to dirt twice. 1st time was for a truck, 2nd time was for a truck. 1st one saw me but he was turning into Berrigan Drv as I was so he did go wider but I didn't want to play so went wide as well. 2nd time I believe the truck was blinded by the sun even tho I had a flasher running, I saw he wasn't changing his line so I went wide again.

All up a positive experience. Can't wait for my bent legs now

Enjoy this mornings effort? least its a bit warmer due to the forthcoming rain.

Think I got passed by tumbleweeds (and maybe an old lady on a zimmerframe) this morning, body fairly hammered after rehab pilates last night.

Strewth you're game.

You wouldn't catch me on one of those contraptions anywhere involving close encounters with semitrailers.

How about log trucks in Tazzie? We were on LogoTrikes.
I trust the truckies more than I do car drivers. Never had a problem with the trucks and wish I could have said that for cars.

Yeah have to agree with John on that one.

Less likely to find truckies, shaving, doing their hair/makeup, getting annoyed by their kids or texting whilst driving.

Looks like he has a mirror, why wasn't he using it.... I'm uploading my video now from the time I was on the road, a rear view shot.
Didn't commute today :(

and he's riding a bike, not a trike............on a trike he could have moved at least one wheel off the bitumen to give more space (no worrying about loose gravel or what the surface is like or or or), the bow wave buffeting would not be a problem (no balancing to worry about), and the following suck would be a nice boost to speed.......

hey stu, hows the ride? nice and smoooooth with the suspension? The rare close pass will feel less threatening as you get used to the lower position. enjoy :)

Well here is my ride from home to the bike path almost. Camera decided to stop recording about 100m from it

Love it, the full suspension glad I got it. You will see my reactions with the trucks as I was keeping an eye on them with my mirror.

That looks like a good commute.....

The traffic was well behaved too ! Loved the long shadow in the video !!

Those drainage gulleys give the quite a thunk when you ride over them, suspension is the only way !!

Agreed on the 'one eye on the mirror', I have no idea why more DF cyclists do not use mirrors, I have them on all three of my recumbents.....I guess all the DF riders are worried by the drag of a rear view mirror, I read somewhere that they slow you down by upto 2 kph.....DFs struggle to keep up with recumbents even without mirrors ;-p

Hehehehe

That is virtually now the only part of my commute on the road as well. The rest of it is cycle paths the entire way. Commute has gone from 27km to 32km now one way. Didnt' think my shortcut was that much
