Thought I should post something productive on this good forum rather than trawl the for sale section and imo this thread is bumpworthy.
Here are the bikes I have found since getting back into riding after a huge break.
The Ground Control is my daily and the DBS is a slow moving project as a winter bike.
I really wanted the little Proflex to be the wifes bike but she much prefers the Barracuda so it was parted out a while ago, awesome bike though, I hope to find one in large one day.
Reading this forum and the UK retrobike forum I get the feeling that I'm not alone in the struggle to keep the bike population in the house in check.

hey, nice rigs there!! That Barracuda looked very Breezer Twister-esque until enlarged. I like the specialized a lot.

Retrobike continues to redefine fanaticism each time I read it.

I'm sure there are more retro mtb builds on the way or finished out there, so lets see them!

Here is my contribution

Given to me by a girlfriend in the early '90s to replace a bike stolen from Uni. Now normally spotted riding to the park with a kid seat on the back

Can't get pics up atm but i have an early 90s Shogun Prairie Breaker, a mid 90s Giant Sedona, and a late 90s Specialized (which i am about to put on ebay, so i won't put any pics here until it's gone).

Also have a Marin Muirwoods steel frame which has a stuck seatpost, stem and BB, free to good home?

Cool. I'd love a large frame, twice the chance of finding one now.

Would love to see pics of the Prairie Breaker when you get the chance. I had a trail breaker in '91 and LUSTED after the Prairie in the catalog.

Here you go, pretty poor condition sadly but she's out of the weather now and waiting patiently for her turn.

Thought that was a before and after for a sec. A prairie breaker will turn up with my name on it one day.

For now this is my new toy.. Finished it over the weekend.

That is a seriously cool bike. :D

The KHS Fleetwood up top is pretty sweet too. The light-coloured tyres set both bikes off really well.

How many gears in the hub on the KHS?

I had a ride on AUBicycles' late-90's vintage Stevens hardtail on the weekend. Skinny tyres at high pressures, narrow bars, a very "forward" position and a grand total of 1" travel on the RS Judy fork made things, erm, interesting

here's a link to the original spec for the Fleetwood. I got it pretty much there except for the red x-lite bars.
http://www.bikepedia.com/Quickbike/Bike ... &Type=bike
It has a 7speed Nexus hub, heavy as hell but has the very cool feature of being able to change gears at a stand still.
I came across the frame on ebay and had the tyres in a dark corner of the shed so started the build for my better half. Thankfully she loves it, I built her up an old proflex 445 ages ago but she never shared my 90's mountain bike fetish and didn't seem to enjoy the bum up head down riding position (I enjoyed it just fine  ) She gets on much better with the cruiser frame and I got to play collect 90's bling.. everyone wins.

Thanks for the comments on the Proflex chaps, It's fun to ride but gee it's twitchy.

is 96-97 retro ?
I had a break for 10 years as successive kids came along and sold my bikes but kept this
firstly as it was the most expensive bike i bought ($2500 in 96) and it had some attributes i loved
as it is there with the 2.1 knobbies it weighs 11kg and is very stiff which i loved for fast flowing fire trails

Most of my riding was the oaks firetrail we use to do it once a week over summer, did it many times at night as well which was a hoot

i dragged it out again a month ago in a bid to get some fitness back and did 700 odd kays till i tried to relive my youth and jump off a wall and the front forks collapsed lol
i managed to find on ebay a spring kit and a new seal kit for the princely sum of $50 so will have it back up and running shortly
