I did my first serious long ride for a while today which took in 300 metres of climbing around 6-12%.
We (group of 6 in the end) did 112kms.

Out for an easy 36kms; up the 3.5 km range fairly hard; then rolling hills, down the range (the only good bit) then about 40kmh for 25kms.

Average hr for me was 80% of max for whole ride. Then shagged all day. Not enough water, no food stop but nibbled figs during ride out.
I also learnt again that I'm a slow learner.

I nearly made it all the way in the group but that one last turn on the front (only lasted 5-600 metres) did it.
I couldn't get off the friggin' saddle to chase on. My legs died.

The good thing......my always problematical left leg wasn't as numb today and actually did some work for me.
:D

152.5km solo, 28.6 avg, pretty comfortable pace. Felt good throughout but tired quickly from 135km. Bit of a step up from last week's 121km so not too surprising.

BNE
I was the weakest of 6 riders on an 80km hilly pacey ride today.
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/91569949

Clear Mountain northern ascent has several 15+% bits around 100-200 metres long, as does Maclean Road South route.
Gee I felt them today, then on the return trip, the guys really hammered. A lot of the return is shared bike path along Kedron Brook, and I thought they were reckless doing 35+ on Mother's Day morning.

Anyway, excellent training ride for Lakeside racing - pace always on, shortish sharp climbs, coffee and BS at the end. :)

Weather is going to turn to crap again for a week... plus kids have 5 days off in a row  .
So I hit my local mountain (a couple of times)... even tired and sore hills are getting easier :D ... aim of the day was to do back to back days while fatigued.
Felt good... have to go high more often, although it is still cold at 1000 meters  .

Cold/flu finally hit me, all training suspended.
Walking down the hallway to the couch is a workout today.
Keep flexing, spinning, rolling, coasting, pushing, pulling, drafting, sprinting, time trialling, touring, climbing, descending, hot dogging, crit-ing, racing, weaving, dodging, dropping, tanking, chasing... but most of all - just keep f'ing riding!

149km in three days so far, much better than I've done in months... escpecially since every day has started below 0C.

Now I just need to avoid the sick people.

Edit: Just checked the power stats, despite feeling like I've been pushing it hard (and HR agrees!), aerobic power numbers are waaaay down. Damn this cold weather!
I ride, therefore I am. But don't ride into harm's way.

Today - sore legs but nothing diabolical.

67.2km on the MTB with slicks, all flat bitumen roads for a change. Ave 25.8km/hr and managed to keep my Ave HR under 165 - didn't blow out beyond 172BPM like I do with my usual hilly rides.

Copped the riders curse a little though :- rode into a gentle NW head wind on the out run thinking I'd come home with a slight tail wind - wind changed direction 10 min. before I turned around to come home.......... grrr......... my legs hurt......... :D
3rd class cycling is always better than 1st class walking

it was in centennial park, and consisted of 6 laps and three climbs, up the paddo gates.
average speed was 36.1km/h, i was hoping for faster but it was very cold (sydney cold)
and i only did a 7km warm up. average heart rate was 170 and max was 180.
im sure the new bike and wheels assisted with my pb.

Felt stiff and tired today  ...hopefully it is just fatigue and not a bug!.
Was going to do some 5 minute efforts on a local climb... did one and had an instant headache so turned around and went home!.
I suppose the good thing is my VAM is up around 1200 these days where it was struggling to be at 1000 for 5 minute plus climbs a couple of months ago. Now to work out how much it will improve if I drop another 10kgs or more ? ( can probably drop a max of 10-11 kgs off myself and 1kg off the bike )... will still get dropped by climbers on descent climbs but might just be in touch to get back on afterwards!.

I love that you care :D .
I think I can walk now though...I started crawling again April 2011 through to end of last year. I think I am at the walking stage now. Will do a bit of jogging later in the year ( TT's in September ) and then cyclocross through winter. I will be patient and start running next year... running real hard I hope!.
Luckily I can't race from end of June through till mid August ... that will keep me under control  . Patience.

I hear you... :-) .
Don't think I am sick... Phew. Problem here is the greetings... You say hello and kiss... 5 minutes after kissing someone, usually a kid you realize they are coughing and spluttering with the flu :-( ... Adults sometimes say "no bisou's, I'm sick" .
Anyway I will stick to two hour endurance rides for a day or 2 till I feel 100% .the weather is very wet... Won't stop me but will stop many others... Fine by me ;-) .
