Half way to target.

Got to agree with comments about being in the hurt locker though.
I have been doing some racing in the Vets and while it is a great workout, enjoyable and good socially, I don't wish to suffer that much all the time.
I get more enjoyment from longer social bunch rides at a steady 28-30 kph average and they probably do more for my health than slogging my guts out for 50 klm and run the risk of throwing myself on the road for $15 prize money.
A lot of my mates race, so I feel left out a bit if I don't take part but I think if I push my self that hard reguarly, then I will stop enjoying my riding.

I agree Novice. I've raced a couple of times and haven't really enjoyed the experience. I'm quite happy to push myself hard on solo rides during the week, racing against my best times and trying to get a high average speed.

In saying that, I think my next big purchase will be a TT bike and I'll look at doing more TT's and more 70.3's.

Just changed my rear Conti after having a few flats. Today was a rusty nail (last nail in the coffin!!). From memory it was put on in November so it's travelled about 11,000km with about 8 punctures.

Also attached the clip-on aero bars tonight*. I'm on holiday for a week and will spend a bit of time rolling up and down the Kwinana bike path (shared).

Safe cycling everyone.

Cheers.

*note to self - must remember to remove said aero-bars before the group rides on the weekend

A week off sounds great... My wife and I were only talking this morning about having a holiday. The only issue is where - with only 1 week/10 days available and with me wanting to take the bike, we need to stay inside Oz.

Can I ask...is it appropriate to ask within an existing thread or should I create another one....how does everyone get so many k's..is it by commuting, is it by racing or just riding in spare time as much as they can

I see people with > 8k already and just wonder how people can get so many k's under their legs. I commute around 4 days a week and only have 4200 k's for the year, mind you I did have 5 weeks off due to a broken thumb..but..even if I hadnt I would still only be at 5-6k mark

the follow up question would be single or got a family??

Married with family, retired from the workforce and am lucky enough to be able to spend anywhere from 2 hours to 8 hours on a bike 6 days per week   Then when i get home from the ride, look after the house cleaning and when my wife is working shifts look after the meal prep etc .

I'm still a long way behind some of the people here, but most of my KM's just come from commuting.

I (usually) ride ~35KM (each way) to/from work, 5 days a week. 350KM a week starts adding up pretty quickly!

yeah...I do 45 odd k's each way myself 4 days a week, and 20 k's on the other day..so my k's add up eventually....but it is the guys who have got 8000 + k's that I am amazed about

just wonder how they do it. I think that if I am consistent, I should be able to hit the 10k myself this year...already done more k's in a year than ever before, so am pretty happy

My commute can vary from 55kms to 62kms typically, but I can really push it to 80 if I wanted to :) I'm currently doing that 3 times a week, and will be doing 4 times a week next week and couple that in with a 100km ride this Sunday well. I'll catch that red triangle eventually.
Way my legs are feeling now 150km rides are doable as are 200km's soon.

Sunny coast this weekend will be down to single figures (AT) 5.30am (our shop ride time) but that is the extreme usually 15 at that time, warms up quickly after 8am.
The coast is quiet at the moment, good roads with generous verges, PM me for local shop rides & accomodation recommendations.

My work is Monday to Friday, 5am to 1:30pm. Once I get home from work during the week I'm normally straight out the door for a 50km ride, get home at about 4:30pm, little bit of computer time, wash clothes if needed, prepare dinner if needed, wacth tv with the missus and daughter for a couple of hours and then off to bed. Weekends I join my club group rides which normally means 100km+ both Saturday and Sunday, normally home by 9:30am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
I sometimes cycle to work as well, but it's only 19km round trip.

Cheers!

Maybe but I would rather have gravel rash ahead of a pinched nerve/slipped disk any day.

Good save but sounds like bad luck

I now have no need to worry about the cycling nazi's anymore as they won't talk to or even acknowledge me anymore.

I now have my new training bike, 10kgs of single speed track bike, rode yesterdays Brisbane2Ipswich came back via Gap Creek Road, all up 130kms for the day.

Won't be riding 130kms again, average speed was just over 20kph, passed 60kph more than 3 times, average speed on the flats was over 30kph, it's any kind of hill that hurts, got the bike set up to do 40kph at 100rpm cadence, so can sprint it up to 60kph at 150rpm, but don't stop on any sort of hill or try riding up anything steeper than about 6 or 7% gradient.

Riding a single is good, you're not all there in the head as far as the 'proper' cyclists are concerned, so you can wear whatever you want, behave exactly how you wish to & have all the fun in the world (except when the road turns up).

My target will take a flogging, I've probably banked enough kms to make it this year but next year it maybe back down to 6 or 10K.

I won't be hard to miss around the Brissie streets now, I'm the idiot with the beard, hairy legs, built like a front row forward, wearing whatever cycling gear takes my fancy, riding a pure black Dolan track bike (with brakes, yeah I had to upset the single fraternity by fitting brakes & my knees are too old for that macho BS). Wave if I go by, I'll wave back because I'm having a ball.

Oh & I'm chasing Sugino 75 parts for my new race bike when it comes, didn't realise that quality track gear can cost nearly as much as 10speed road gear.

Glad to hear you've given the "plonkers" the slip Wal. Just make sure they stay in the rear view mirror, a good distance behind, and then you don't have to worry about them at all 8)

Huge congrats to my friend TimW for hitting the 10k mark yesterday. Well done Killa!!

Safe and happy riding everyone!

My last day of Annual Leave today. On my 7 days off I managed to squeeze in 723km of cycling, a 10km run and a 7km run. Was attempting to do 1 x 100km+ ride each day but only managed the first 6 days. Got to 74km today, it was a little windy (not much!) and I'd had enough. Legs were still going ok, considering.
Now, I just need o catch back up to TimW!!
