Re: munga's new projectDo you ever actually ride them?
What is it with cycling? 30+ kmh and lycra???!!!
Re: munga's new projectyo munga, where do you do your powdercoating/spraypainting? I have an old repco mixte that i want to do similar to that europa frame you have with white and blue stripes.
A guy from the fixie forum recommended P&J Powdercoatings in Tingalpa who was charging around $80 for a complete sandblast and powdercoat, on top of that they do silicone plugs for all holes etc... I just wanted another opinion. Cheers Ethan
Re: munga's new projectMike: yes.
Ethan: Lewis and Sons at Morningside would be my suggestion for powdercoating. Damhooligan in Melb, Star Enamellers in Syd, Joe Cosgrove in Bris for painting. If it's a cheap job you're after, take it to someone cheap, but expect to be unimpressed with the results. Not to take anything away from the great result as a whole, but have a look at uncle arthurs red benotto for a cheap powdercoat job. If thats good enough for the task at hand pm him for his guy. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new projectHow tight a fit are those balloons?
They look the goods, though. volutamus scandemus
Re: munga's new projectnice work on all your bikes Munga, can we see a picture of them all together? most people have a particular style when it comes to restoration and /or design. yours would be quite evident when your bikes are shown all together and would make for a good pic. it might make a lot of people envious but it will inspire others also.
steel is the real deal.
Re: munga's new project
Yeah, you and me both.....isn't working for me either Richard
Re: munga's new project
yeah, tighter than a twel... nevermind. frame clearance is fine, but theres about 2mm between caliper and tyre. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new projectThis is a great thread for me to show my wife if she ever starts to complain about all the bikes I seem to accumulate...

Re: munga's new project
i think you've had too much medicine, mark. most of my bikes are in pieces. these are my runners: i have a mtb (specialized s-works m2) , another mtb for the shops (the ugliest thing you've ever seen), another mtb at my in-laws (giant boulder 550), and this burgundy superlite. these are my not-runners: europa under the bed - bare frame colnago in the cupboard - waiting for me to repair 3 repcos in the shed -blue superlite is a bare frame, pink and grey olympic 12 is hanging up without its wheels, dark blue olympic 14 is now without its derailleurs (which are on the new superlite). lemond in the shed - sciroccos and carbon fork fitted, but little else apollo mixte in the shed, complete but needs overhauling. so as you can see, there's not much worth taking photos of at the moment. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new project
Love the colour! Seeing all these is making wish I had some coin to order the wheels, hubs and parts I need to finish my commuter off. Heading to the snow shortly so major money drain there... But the family and I need some time away from the rat race. Keep up the good work, you're making me jealous!
Re: munga's new projectbought, refurbished, sold to Hamster. nice bike, but a bit big for me.
never thought to get a decent pic of this one. ![]() internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new project
It's now my standard commuter and general purpose ride, by some rough figuring I've increased lt's kms by around 4,500 kms. I put a fairly new Gatorskin on the back wheel just after getting and now it's looking rather tired. Also, I've put a Brooks saddle on it ($8 at Pushies last year). It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.
Re: munga's new projecti reckon we need an update from munga on all of those projects.
Re: munga's new projectI reckon that could take some thinking..

Re: munga's new project
I fully agree. An update with photos please. This is a really great thread Munga as it's nice to see your progression through the up's and down's. I really like the way you have had the initial concepts and different purposes for your bikes you require and following your progress.

Re: munga's new projectI care only for seeing the Colnago.
What is it with cycling? 30+ kmh and lycra???!!!
Re: munga's new projectupdate on the old stuff:
the burgundy superlite is now missing it's handlebars, temporarily donated to another bike. i've still got this superlite frameset: ![]() it was being built up with 7400 dura-ace, destined to be my regular bike. it now has no purpose. wanna buy it? the europa is in the spare bedroom wardrobe 'curing' it's fresh paint. it's been 'curing' for a few months now. truth is, it's not perfect, and i haven't gotten around to fixing it up yet. the lemond is stripped of it's tricolore paint scheme, trial-fitted with some parts, and waiting for a repaint: ![]() it will probably be put on the market. sold the cfr1 to a young bloke. foolishly left a ti record seatpost in it.. sold the olympic 14 to steely, who got it back on the road looking like this: some new stuff: the wheels pictured on the blue superlite at the top are now on my new repco vertex, courtesy of Thoglette: ![]() which started life as this: ![]() bought a mtb: ![]() now fitted with more road-oriented tyres and grey rims. bought a colnago. needs work. groupset collected: ![]() bought a raleigh. no pics yet. bought a repco vertex tt. no pics yet. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new projectThanks Munga. It seems like quite a bit of action happening with the bikes. I suppose you need to keep a written record of all the things that are going on - parts required, jobs to do, things to buy, etc, etc. The Lemond has a pretty fancy front fork and should look great when finished. Looks like you did a fantastic job of the Repco Vertex's paint finish. Well done and thanks for compiling this update.
Re: munga's new projectyou're too kind, Mr Fountain. your collection is the envy of a great many, i suspect. i am a mere hack at this caper, compared to the likes of yourself.
here's a (poor) pic of the raleigh (as purchased): ![]() it's a 653 race, from the 1989 catalogue http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/v/Manu ... 9.pdf.html i put on an uneaten (!) avenir titanium saddle for the pic. groupset is mainly suntour superbe pro, from 1985 with the exception of the later superbe pro front derailleur, the 7401 dura-ace brake levers, and the nasty joyu/araya wheels. brake calipers require more research to determine model/vintage. purchased from kerbside cleanup professional, who said it had no wheels when he found it. superbe pro hubs, levers and stem should finish it off nicely. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new project
Very nice find indeed and with a pretty complete Superbe Pro gruppo it will be awsome.
Re: munga's new projectOk, so you were the guy who beat me on that auction.
I'm assuming that was the Ebay "Suzukicanter" action? Always get worried when the wheels are missing that that was the part of the bike locked to a solid object! If you are going to Pushies galore might see if you can bring the Raleigh along eh?
Re: munga's new projectsorry, mate. if it makes you feel better, my max was way more than yours ;p
defo going to pushies - not sure what bike i'll take tho. if you wanna take a look at it, pm me and we'll go for a trundle. should be up and running by next weekend. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
