Faulty Cassette body

I have just put a new rear wheel on the OCR2. In the process I've discovered that the cassette body on the old wheel is loose, it moves left and right.

That may explain while I have never been able to get the gears to work properly.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Had a mates R560 with the same problem. The freehubs can be replaced, but no-one carries the parts in stock.

The wheel has met it use by date anyway, so I won't bother. Gears worked perfectly today with the new wheel and I didn't even adjust the derailer.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?
