Daccordi Rider wrote:"I didn't expect to see that scenario at the end, but I've spoken with Andy," Bruyneel told the team's website post-stage. "What's clear here is that he's had a lack of competition. We know that. We come here with different intentions other than to win. The main goal is to see how Andy is going in the mountains. With a lack of competition in his legs, in theory we will see him getting better this week and by the end of the week we can see where he really is. It's definitely better if things like this don't happen but it isn't a disaster."

What? Cadel has raced about 10 minutes this year and came out and gave them a collective kicking.
What bollocks.

We can see how he is going on the equivalent of Belair Rd - and that ain a hill, so how is he going to go on Mountains ? hasn't he been training ....

Interesting listening to Chief Wiggum's interview. He want's to relinquish his yellow jersey before the next TT, so he can use his Sky TT suite. I would have thought they would have one in yellow for him... BTW, is 55km longer than what the time trials are usually?

55 km's is a really long tt...only really seen at the TDF and not even there are they that long every year... sort of understand he want's to tt in his normal tt suit especially over that distance, funny though.

Another interesting stage, and Wiggins and Cadel safely at the front in 9th and 7th respectively.

Abandonandy up to his usual efforts finishing 100th down 1:47.

I just can't understand it. He must be losing time in order to go on the attack. But why ? Talk about lack of instinct.

I can't wait to see how much time he'll lose on the ITT, or will he call it quits before then ?

Maybe it's just me but Wiggins looked a little surly on the podium the last two days, like he couldn't be @r$ed with it all. Some of his comments were interesting upon taking yellow....
“I've got the jersey but that wasn't the objective today," Wiggins said afterwards. "If I wasn't the yellow jersey, they'd say that I was rubbish, and if I get it, they say that it's too early. It doesn't matter.”
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wiggins ... -objective

Of course I've know idea what was said to prompt that statement so it could be well out of context. Certainly the weight of expectation is building.

Cadel on the other hand has looked quite at ease with all the post race requirements.

Might all add up to nothing, just something that struck me :| You certainly can't argue with Wiggins form at the moment.

I think Bruyneel has discovered that the stick doesn't work with the Schlecks, we'll probably see a lot more carrott from here on.

I'm not prepared to write off Andy at the Tour, he was poor at the TOC around this time last year. He seems to time his form for his major goal pretty well, at least he has the last three years.

Unashamedly stolen fron CN forums
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

welllll, yeahbut....ONLY because andrea's stage 1 "back of the pack" negotiations with vino utterly failed:

andrea: so, vino, me and my temporarily detatched siamese twin frank were thinking of riding for astana next year. johan *thinks* he is a master motivator and tactician...hahahahahhahaha, he can fool most of his teams most of the time, but he can't fool me and frank! me and frank know i will win le tour, and anyone who is so much as half aware of my rigorous training this year knows jb does not understand our training tactics. he should stick to things he does best, like selecting and knowing exactly how to change fresh picked beets to magically transformational mountain juice.

plus, johann is a big bully and says bad things about me and frank to reporters.

our daddy told us meandfrank will be the leaders we were born to be AND win THE tour for you if you bring us to astana. to show our respect for and thanks to you, we promise that in each of our three pre-tour training races, we will ride in a way that makes it look like we are trying and more importantly, like we actually care.

so, whaddya' think about my offer, vino?

vino: vino think he may be first EVER rider forced to abandon due to laughing and ruptured funnybone.

andrea: b-b-b-b-b-but

vino: andy no like time trial. andy no like descending. andy no like rain. andy no like cold. andy no like big heat. andy no like crosswinds. andy no like headwinds. andy no like serious training. andy complain too much about everything.

andrea: but viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnoooooooooooooooo...

vino: plus, andy never learn to fix his own damn chain and vino NEVER tell ds order teammate to neutralize race when vino crash downhill. when vino crash down hill and rip up knee, thigh, and elbow, vino pick himself up, change bike, and bleed all way to finish, then wait for time trial when vino kick *** to get time back.

andrea: yeahbut, you cheated that time!

vino: not vino's fault someone give him wrong bag of blood. vino still ride time trial - vino's bandages weighed half as much as bike that day. vino got busted, so what? vino still crushed everyone in time trial. vino take punishment. vino no complain. vino never cry over spilled blood.

andrea: but viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnoooooooooooooo....

vino: frank get call from johan week before giro. johan tell frank "jakob out, you in." frank cry and complain. frank try to weasel out - frank tell johan "sorry, no can do - have to go on vacation with with brother andy." johan tell frank "have nice vacation with andy in italy....see you in herning on 5 may!"

andrea: johan KNOWS we always swim with the dolphins in may!

vino: vino do high altitude training on glaciers may. frank fall and hurt shoulder....frank blame alex. next day, frank quit because his shoulder hurt. vino never disgrace astana with his racing. vino attack, schlecks sit back.

andrea: does that mean "no deal?"

vino: you quick study, andy! maybe tomorrow you talk with big george...if he retire this year, cadel need new super domestique next year!

The same situation played out the same last year (and other years). I prefer riders that compete all year round but the Schlecks have always gone with the Armstrong system of racing everything bar the Tour as a training race. Expect to see a completely different Schleck come the Tour. Cadel has shown his got some very good form coming on, despite the rumblings of not having had a good year. Wiggins is going to be interesting, if he can hold his form then its going to be a massive showdown. I think he will fade in the second half of the Tour.

^^^ I think I will reserve my judgement till Fri/Sat/Sunday's stages to see what Andy will do... I really hope he hits good form for the tour as he will have to attack everywhere it gets steep to make as much time up on the good time trialers as possible. Would be a pretty boring tour if Wiggo and Cadel just mark each other the whole way and let the TT's decide the results!.
On Wiggo fading in the 2nd half... who know's, but he does walk a fine line with the amount of weight he has lost / the amount of reserves he has for 3 weeks ... plus he and Cadel are getting on a bit... lets hope some young'ins are thrown into the mix this year!.

Just watching it on SBS, and the live coverage disappeared and went to a "criterium du dauphine" splash screen type thing, and I distinctly heard somebody (sounded like a technician) say "sh*t!"

It was Tomalaris, technicians aren't miked. Fair enough too.

Pretty average feed considering it's managed by the same mob that do the TDF

It is going to be very interesting today, the first guys go in about half an hour and there is about a 50km an hour head wind... I am going to ride over and watch a little bit, it would be rude not to when it is so close to home wouldn't it!

So, a great ride from Wiggo, a solid performance from Cadel and Andy came in 8th last  OK Andy did crash, but still... it's more of the same from the big names today.

Yeah looked like Wiggo was going to take Cadel but when they pulled his car out he seemed to pull away a bit ... Gotta love the fight in him!. I noticed he lost his bidon very early on as well, would have suffered without any fluids for an hour!.
Definitely a day for the specialists ... I am in awe with a 51 km av in that wind!... Wiggins is so aero you can hardly see him!.
Kids are super excited to get their Aussie flags out when race goes past our house tomorrow :-) .

So Andy does it again.

Lost something like 2:30 odd by the 18km mark, over 8:30 by the 40km and was a total of 10:47 down at the end.

Mind you, they reported that he crashed at 12km, so to be only 2:30 down then wasn't too bad, but obviously died after that ?

It must have been hard in those conditions though.

The next few stages will be interesting for suer to see how Wiggo goes climbing mountains.

tt result makes the tdf very interesting. Cadel lost 1:43 on Wiggo in 53 k's. Stage 9 = 41.5 k itt and stage 19 =, 53.5k itt. Cadel will need to decisively drop Wiggo on at least a couple of climbs to cover what he will lose on over 100 k of itt including the prologue. Only 3 summit finishes and 1 of them rated medium difficulty only. Game on :D

Ithink Cuddles lost 1.09 to Wiggins in the TT at last years Dauphine so no need to panic just yet. I know that Wiggins crashed and withdrew so we will never know but as Parrotts say..Game on :D

They are unlikely to experience conditions like that at the tour... The smaller guys would have really suffered yesterday... Andy certainly looked ripped up when he came past.

We will only be 15 minutes or so from the start so no tv coverage when they come through... Plus they will probably be still going flat out at that stage till the break gets away. Still kids will enjoy it... They will enjoy the tdf more... Kids love the caravan more than the racing :-) .
