I have ridden this course a few years ago. Relatively easy, just a few short sharp hills.
might be pleasantly cool but hopefully sunny.

That's the same weekend as the Darren Smith Classic race at Nerang (which is run by Robbie's club), so looks like plans are afoot to turn that great event into part of a 3 day cycling festival. Looking forward to hearing some more details...
Cheers,

Pretty poor form to have it the same day as one of the biggest rides of the year.hosko wrote:Just a reminder that the http://ridegc.com.au event is on the Gold Coast next Sunday. $95 entry fee which includes a jersey. Should be a good event.

4 months to go, lots of work to do. Did my first 100km at Ipswich this year and have done 100 again since. I can get up Mt Cootha ok now, albeit slowly. I'm looking at the hill climbs and they look ok-ish in isolation. Might have to walk up the Smith Street Wall. Would it be fair to say that the climbs are somewhat like the front & back fo Cootha? Cootha back is 2.2km and 199m.
Not sure how I'll go doing them all on the same day though....
160k King of the Mountains Climbs:
Distances are bottom of climbs
(31k) Pocket Road Rocket (1.3 kilometres 100m elevation)
(57k) Burringbar Burner (2.0 kilometres 160m elevation)
(88k) Smith Creek Wall (0.5 kilometres 130m elevation)
(95k) Burringbar Buster (3.0 kilometres 160m elevation)
(111k) Pottsville Pacer (1.2 kilometres 150m elevation)
I'm just over 100kgs now (6'2"), but hopefully can drop into the mid-90's by the ride and improve my hill climbing. Wish me luck or tell me I'm dreaming!

You know there is a saying that goes something like this - Disgression is the better part of Valour !BrisVegas wrote:Eeeek! I've agreed to do the Rainbow Ride 160km course with my riding group.

I did the Rainbow ride a few years ago and it almost finished me.
I am a Coot-tha veteran and i would say beware - all of those hills will challenge you especially if it is hot.
I am considering having another go at it this year and am more worried about the descents than the climbs.
Good luck and don't be afraid to do some walking !

The website for this is up and taking registrations.Abby wrote:Robbie McEwen has posted on Twitter that deails will be coming soon about 'his new Gran Fondo event at the Gold Coast, combined with a big cycling weekend on November 16-18'.
That's the same weekend as the Darren Smith Classic race at Nerang (which is run by Robbie's club), so looks like plans are afoot to turn that great event into part of a 3 day cycling festival. Looking forward to hearing some more details...
Cheers,
Abby

It will be interesting to see if this goes ahead this yr or gets cancelled yet again. What a disaster in terms of scheduling vs a well established event already using the same mountain?marinmomma wrote:The website for this is up and taking registrations.Abby wrote:Robbie McEwen has posted on Twitter that deails will be coming soon about 'his new Gran Fondo event at the Gold Coast, combined with a big cycling weekend on November 16-18'.

Me and a mate are doing the 100 km also.BrisVegas wrote:Anyone else doing the Byron Bay Rainbow Ride next weekend? I decided, after much soul searching, to nominate for the 100km event. I just don't think I'm bike fit enough yet for that hilly course. Group of 5 of us staying down there Sat night, 3 of us doing the 100, two lunatics doing the 160. Hopefully I survive and it's a fun ride.

We entered as a team, that way you save about 10 dollars.
We are the Wallis and Grommet team.
Might wear this jersey, but not sure.
I will look out for your jersey for sure, i have a personal interest in diabetes

Good luck BV, you'll be ok if you just think happy thoughts as you climb . Seriously though hope it is enjoyable in some way for you.BrisVegas wrote:Anyone else doing the Byron Bay Rainbow Ride next weekend?
