Re: Cool track photo thread
Gary, It's actually a "Flying lap" and the thing I noted about these guys, is they seemed a bit unfamiliar with the track, and during the "Flying lap" the guy had all sort of trouble holding a line on the track (142m). And as a note, for this size track, top riders would be doing sub-8 seconds for the lap (more than 30% faster) which will give you a bit of an idea of what it was like to race scratch races (10 or 12 riders) back in the day. As I spoke about before, it was all about positioning with a few laps to go, and just being focused on where abouts you were on the track (without getting dizzy Cheers Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.

I think these days, there is not enough emphasis in the training, to hug that bottom line hard. It is not as easy as some would think, once you start doing under 12sec 200mtr times. Foo I don't suffer fools easily and so long as you have done your best, you should have no regrets.

Re: Cool track photo thread
I have no trouble hugging the bottom line. But then I'm still trying to set a 200 time under 15sec!
Re: Cool track photo thread
True, and noticed (by me) recently, at the Champs in Melbourne at Hisense Arena. Personally, it was drummed in, to hug the pole-line hard, especially in Match Sprints. As soon as you drift, a good rider, will slip thru under you, and your toast. (also did so, a lot, for time-trial work) On the boards in Europe (these smaller tracks) we regularly came in under 11's. Though at training or racing we were never chasing times. More relevant these days, since it is now used for qualifications. Re: Cool track photo threadI remember watching Gordon Johnson race Danny Clark at willey park in the 70's and the prize was a Jonson outboard and an aluminium Clarke boat but Johnson won the boat and Clark ran 2nd it was a great nights racing.I still remember being allowed in the middle with my autogragh book to get signatures off all the good Pro's ,Olly H.Clarke ,R.Whetters ,K,Hoole ,R.Ryan,W.Roberts ,L.Venn ,R.Baensch, E.Cardi the list goes on .My favorite memory's are watching the motor paced races at Camperdown and Newcastle with 4 motorbikes and a rider behind each one ,the noise of the motors and the crowd banging on the tin signs around the top of the track made for some great racing stuff you dont forget .
