New Malvern Star Oppy 2013 range

I was just looking on bikeexchange and came across ads for the 2013 Oppy range. I thought the current frame and paint-job looked pretty good, but the new ones are cool. I am actually lusting after a Malvern Star. I currently ride an Oppy A5, which I bought because it was good and cheap, but the MS bikes were never the thing of dreams. This might change it.


Oppy SL $5499 with DuraAce 9000 11sp


Oppy Di2 $3899 with Ultegra Di2

New frame design. Price still looks pretty competitive (and I expect the street prices will be a fair bit less). There is also an entry carbon model, the C4 with Tiagra at about $1600.

What do you think? Will this help MS progress?

I can see what you mean about Cell. Pretty similar, although the Cell seems to my eye to have a slightly curved down tube and a more curved top tube and no internal electrical wiring. There are obviously similarities to other brands too in different aspects. Few bikes are particularly distinctive (except BMC and Pinarello that come to mind immediately).

Overall, I really like the paintwork on these two Oppys.

i have had an Oppy for the last 3.5 years. they are great value and a good bike, but they are far from great bikes!
much happier with my upgrade, oppy is the wet weather bike now

Malvern Stars will never be the thing of dreams for bike snobs..

I bought my C6 because it represented better value for money than anything else I looked at - being a previous years model helped here.

After 18 months and 16000km I am still happy with the C6. When replacement time comes Malvern Star will be at the top of my list,

Is it a great bike? I really don't know what makes a bike great. One thing I do know is that no matter what bike I ride it will always have the same engine.

The chainstay of the oppy seems to have alot more refinement too.

That's true, but the spec page I saw listed DA9000, and since it is not out for a few more months yet, that will probably be the version it ships with.

Frame also looks a lot like the Cell Triumph Di2 with a slight switch of colours.

Cell is a lot less $, with slightly better wheels. So too is the Azzuri Forza Pro Di2.

So the Oppy won't be a huge bargain. Whether it's "brand" (now Avanti ?) is worth
the extra grand is something you've got to weigh up.

I'm not unhappy with just having bought a Cell Triumph.

I'm not sure the oppy Di2 is worth it. Going by "brand names" the Giant TCR advanced 0 is $3999 with better wheels and cabling... and Fuji also do one for a similar price, abliet with entry level wheels

TCR Advanced 0 is $3,299 but the colour scheme is not for everyone.

Less than 2k with SRAM red and S30 wheels for the road bikes, only concern 2 out of the 3 have had their frames replaced recently

I asked my BS what the differences between the A5, Merida Race Lite and Giant Defy was. Their reply (I quote) "the Giant's and the Merida's have a higher quality frame and fork. They both have a tapered steerer which makes them very confident in the corners. But the Malvern Star is still alot of bike for the money" which makes me wonder what nickobec said

Anyone know when these 2013's are due to hit the stores? Local retailers in Canberra arent sure.

I'm looking at a 2012 C6 for about $2500, but am tempted to wait for the Di2 shod Oppy.

The geometry looks a little bit more relaxed than the previous frame. The head tube also looks different.

I wonder if Raoul Luescher has designed these new frames, he certainly knows his stuff.

Yeah I love the fact that Genysis have won basically everything on a bike that many disregard before actually riding it.

i just bought a 2011 oppy team pro with the awesome genesys wealth paint scheme for 1700 second hand. only 1200k on it.
loving it. a huge upgrade from my aluminium/sora fitted bike!
get around the malvern stars!

I saw that the 2013 Oppy Team retains the current, Luescher-designed frame.
