Yep someone met with an island out near Wellington Point, exactly the same island as last year that took a casualty.

It was a great ride, did the 100k in 3 hours nearly right on the minute, i must admit it was a bit hairy at times, some people really need to learn how to ride in a bunch correctly and not swerve to the left or right without checking the shoulder, also a massive lack of pointing out potholes of which their were many. All in all though a great bunch bunch of people and a great ride and will deffo do it again next year :)

Brissie to the Bay anyone?

I did it in 3.10. I was impressed with myself :-). I do my rides solo but I agree there were some hairy moments where I hit holes due to not being pointed out. In general, almost everyone were great to ride with. It was a great ride.

Ouch. Hope the rider was okay. Hopefully no one headbutted that railway bridge. Talk about low to the ground. The 100k was a fantastic ride. I really enjoyed it. Was aiming for anything under 3.00-3.10 but ended up doing 3.20 when I hurt my elbow after coming across a random pothole that no one kindly pointed out through Wynnumn (So it wasn't just me that thought people didn't signal potholes/obstructions lol).

Did anyone else almost wipe out/have a moment after coming across the "Road Closed" sign that was conviently placed in the middle of Charlotte Street? just prior to the first rest stop.

I hope they change the end next year and not have us 100kers meet up with the 50 and 25ers at the end, bloody dangerous imo (massive massive pinch point). Mainly because the much slower riders just blocked the road willy nilly and then complained later that they were "pushed to the gutter" and saying we were riding like it was the Tour lol, imo it's not our fault that we are regular riders that sit on 42km or so and pickup the pace further for the last few k ;) There are always gonna be people that are disgruntled i guess but it's just a shame they feel that way. Did anyone have a chat to Loundesy? :D

I have to correct my typo. I would have web really happy with a 3 hrs 10m but I did it in 3h 29m. Not bad considering I ride solo on 30km trips. Other than the RTCC, this is my first 100km ride.

Yes, some of the signs in Wynnum were a shock however I can guarantee cars would have driven through them I they weren't positioned as they were.

On a side note, I recorded the whole ride on my GoPro :-).

I did the 50km with my wife. It was better organised than the Cycle of Giving ride we did earlier in the year. Great food and drinks and volunteers at every corner. Thanks folks, great job!

Only a couple of minor annoyances, mainly the muppets who wandered all over the lane and made it dangerous to pass. I swear these people probably drive in the overtaking lane on the motorway too. Stick to the left people! I was sort of expecting bad etiquette in the 50km group and wasn't disappointed.

Only saw two angry motorists. One was a white Corolla who sat on the horn and revved his engine because a cyclist had drifted out into the lane too far. Yep, the cyclist was in the wrong, but a quick toot of the horn would have done. The other one was a Jeep Wrangler who very aggressively passed me and and some others in the left lane near the PA Hospital. Barely 30cm gap from his wing mirror to handlebars. No need for it, as there were 2 other lanes he could have used.

I had one MAMIL bump into me at a red light close to the end. I think he was not expecting to stop for traffic lights! He ended up wobbling through the intersection and kept going, much to the chagrin of the bunch of us who did the right thing and waited for the light to change.

Anyway, it was a mostly fun day. I enjoyed the "country" style riding of the Ipswich 100 a lot more though.

It's amazing the speed you can sustain in a bunch, looked down at my computer at one point and hardly felt like i was putting in a effort (used to riding alone and not in a wind protected bunch) and we were travelling at 47km my eyeballs nearly popped out of my head, i am used to training alone in the Sunshine Coast hinterland which is alot hard than riding around the city which i only found out yesterday as i've not ridden in the city before.

I have the Tamborine Challenge in my sights, really keen to do some climbing with a good bunch rather than alone as usual :)

PS: I used to ride competitions years ago but only now ride fundraiser rides in memory of my late 3 year old daughter, she was the reason the bike got dusted off along with the actual riding/training being a great outlet as i deal with her loss, cycling is definitley a good outlet :)

Durilium, so sorry to hear about your the loss of your daughter, as a father of 3 I couldn't imagine the pain that you and your family have gone through losing a child and I commend you for having the strength to find an outlet by getting out on the bike again.

Regarding Brissie to the bay, I did the 50 with a mate and we were out at the front and got a police motorbike escort into town, waved through most intersections to the finish line, it was fantastic.

Cheers AJ, she only passed in september so still quite fresh, it was a very rare cancerous brain tumor, she went from totally healthy to being taken from us in 4mths it was very aggressive so it does not matter to me what conditions the fundraising is for it just feels right to do "something" every little bit adds up to something big right? :)

Maybe next year we can have a meetup with other members also riding, i'll be doing Brissy to Goldie in october also so might be another chance for some of us to meet up, i like to ride at good clip so i'm up for a good well paced bunch if anyones keen ;)

Those that did the 50k i encourage you to take on the 100k next year, if you ride regularly it really is not hard at all....don't think of the distance and you'll be right, it felt like it was over too quickly yesterday mainly because i was riding with a great bunch of people, had a few good chats along the way...alot of good riders were their to bunch up with it was a really great time.

I've not done it before. I'm not keen at staying at GC so would need to come back. Is there any easy way of using public transport with a bike to get back to Brissie?

A lot of people take the train back. I think it's about a 10km ride to the station.
