Website Update - Tapatalk and Access Issues

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:29 am

Due to a server update, there is some downtime planned at 11pm. If all goes to plan then it shouldn't be more than 5 minutes, though take care if using the forum around this time so you don't loose your posts.

--
Update: server changes on Monday. Since then there are known issues with Tapatalk (can't login because of the Captcha) and port 81 problems

Hi,
Just tried logging in via tapatalk via iPad and it came up with something saying I had exceeded the number of attempted logins etc.

Suppose to put in login details plus the captcha thing.

Only problem is that the captcha thing does not show up in tapatalk.

Logged in via website, which still asked for the same details etc.

But still can't get in via tapatalk.

Any suggestions?

Not sure if it was caused from update or not?

Cheers

Christopher, when I make a post the URL to refresh the screen is redirecting me to port 81 instead of defaulting to port 80, which means I get blocked by the work firewall every time...

I also encountered the tapatalk blocking issue this morning and unlocked my account, but still can't login via Tapatalk.

Same issue here - connecting to port 81 and Tapatalk authentication is broken.

I had same thing happen to me but I was using desktop PC. I tried a few times to login but it would briefly login and then kick me out and ask for password again. I didn't get a captcha thing (thank god, I hate them so badly) but rather an easy question to answer. I still couldn't login though unti I cleared my temp internet files.

Thanks for the feedback on Tapatalk.

Yes, there were changes affecting the ports and will pass this to the developer.

Login from mobile, work and home all gave me the "exceeded maximum attempts-try again and answer the question" blah too, also had about ten minutes of "site doesn't exist" messages about 0710-0715. No port issues mentioned.

If you are having tapatalk issues, I wonder if you are able to delete your cookies - will mean loging in again though in reading up on this I am wondering if the 'old cookies' may be the problem - let me know before I go and kill all of the forum cookies meaning everyone will be logged out and will have to log in again.

Hi,
I have tried resetting everything I can find on the iPad, but still getting the same message.

Cheers

Tapatalk down here to. However as it tries to connect to port 80, it can't connect. Forcing a browser to use port 80 shows problems as well. I had to force a port 81 connection to login. Perhaps a previous redirect from 80 to 81 is not working with the upgrade?

You can use Tapatalk to browse through the forums, you simply cannot login. And since Tapatalk will only let you browse the forums (without logging in) by searching through categories etc to get to BNA, it means Tapatalk realistically cannot be used until the problem Is discovered.

Re: Website Update - Tapatalk and Access Issues

Postby AUbicycles » Wed Jul 11, 2012 1:30 am

For Tapatalk: I installed the latest tapatalk (in the forum) and also made some Captcha changes so it (theoretically) doesn't jump in.

Lets go back a step and explain what is happening. A server update was made to help increase performance. It is reversable but we are giving it a fair go to see how far it does help. I am not a hard-core techy, but am working with one so excuse me if my knowledge is not as detailed (or accurate), main thing is that an experienced sys-admin is on the case.

For general access problems and Port 81 issues, there were changes that affect this and I need to look into this further with my techy as I am getting pages shown as bicycles.net.au:81/forums/ where the 81 shouldn't really be there... anymore. On my smart phone I couldn't see the forum through my browser at all.

Onto Tapatalk, as suggested, login via tapatalk is not possible as a Captcha is being shown. The captcha is there as there are ongoing hack attempts and to protect members accounts from being taken over, the captcha is displayed to lock out these attempts. I am reluctant to turn captcha off and it would mean an ongoing and increasing bombardment of attempts which would kill the server. For interest, the captcha isn't a standard captcha, rather one that is easier for humans and harder for robots. It seems that tapatalk isn't allowing the captcha to be shown because 'maximum login attempts have been exceeded' due to the automatic hack attempts.

Tomorro, if we havn't seen a genuine performance improvement, we will reverse the change and everything should return to normal. Thanks for your patience... and yes... it is late and there is no Tour de France running tonight so all for you :)

No, because those of us regularly accessing via firewalls would have had the p81 issue already.
