Now. IIRC, you said at one stage you didn't mind your riding being critiqued...
Sit waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over to the left like that and you give the clowns room to treat you with disdain. Seeing as we are not fitted with indicators, it has worked well for me to use my position to give the sentient smokeboxers an idea of my intention. The rest of them have to be allowed for of course but by taking an assertive position on entry, you prevent them acting on their ignorance.

It’s “I was born to Cry” by Johnny Thunders. It’s on a compilation CD I’ve had for donkeys ages. The Video was from early January this year and thanks to the advice I received on BNA I have since improved my roadcraft at this RAB which I ride through every day on my commute. I now “take the lane” before coming up to it.

The video was taken using a pinhole camera in my glasses which are good but with limitations. The camera is in the middle of the frames (just above your nose) but the angle isn’t quite what you see with your eyes. Unfortunately the glasses died and at roughly $150 I’m not sure if I’ll replace them.

Just bought 2 x 32gb class 10 micro sdhc cards with sd adaptors for $29 shipped.
Seems like a good price.

Thanks Pushy, that RCGroups forum has some great info...

Seems there are 720P #11's with 120 deg lens, and new key chain style that do 1080P@30fps or 720P@60fps but with only the std 67 deg lens (120 deg lens expected later in the year)... so decisions, decisions...

720P@60fps with 120 deg lens for $50 would be ideal imo (but what do I know... I'm very much a noob on cameras)

I posted a pic of the Jumbo at the top of this page, there is also an animation that shows the different lens angles.

From what I have read, the new 1080P does not last as long as the 720P model, Mine lasts 1.5 hours and the 1080P only lasts 1 hour.

If you want the 720P grab it from here,

Some might remember the Hindsight camera that was posted quite awhile ago. For those that don't know of it, it is a safety camera, it has a lens that mounts on the rear of your bike and a video screen that is mounted on the bars. It acts as a rear view mirror. It records video in 5 minute loops and in the event of an accident it will stop and save the recording.

It has been in development for quite awhile, but is now available for purchase.

Image

Some of the features...

Video Recording
The systems records video in a continuous 5-minute loop, stopping automatically if the bike is laid over.

Lithium-Ion Battery
Rechargeable internal battery offers over 5 hours of run-time (*set at highest-resolution)

3.5" Transflective LCD Screen
The 3.5-inch transflective color screen presents crystal clear, real-time rear views and is readable in bright conditions. Not for use with polarized sunglasses.

Modules
Downloadable upgrades will be available for Hindsight 35 so you will always be on top of the latest technology.

Cyclometer
Includes speed, max speed, average speed, trip distance, odometer, stopwatch, and time. Heart-rate and cadence are optional accessories.

I use a ContourROAM basically because of its no-fuss setup, suits being helmet mounted better than the GoPro and waterproof straight out of the box.

Talking to a guy at work yesterday about action cams.

I think that at the end of the day, it’s probably best to save your pennies and buy the market leader. Either a GoPro or Contour. There’s pro’s and con’s between the two. For instance the GoPro can be chest mounted whereas the Contour is better for mounting to a helmet. If you buy the base model and the right mount first time I think that the cost isn’t prohibitive.

That’s my opinion 8)

Here's something that might be of interest. Does a similar job to dashware but uses on line processing.

http://www.biketelemetry.com/cms/

Sample video.

Hope it might be useful. I saw it over on BROL if you want to go look at the source.

http://www.bentrideronline.com/messageb ... hp?t=86511

I did find another that runs on computer but works best with Mac. I couldn't get it to work with Windows for some reason.

This one. Won't work in Linux either which is a pity. Probably a work around if I was smart enough.

I would say the one above might be chest mounted.
Its either pointed down way to much or he is not in a normal riding position (ie he is peddling or reducing wind ect ect).
Its very important to tweak and test your new camera.

I would take a guess and say the rider is using a GoPro and Chest Mount, I don't know if the angle is intentional or not. Either way the footage won't help.

It's always good to take some test footage when you first mount the camera, it will avoid problems like that above.

I leave Australia to Germany in about 8 days.. I've just decided that I would really like to have a new HD Hero 2 on me to film my trip (including 4 weeks cycle touring through France). Where is the best place to get it at the best price that will be able to have it to me within a couple of days? Ebay?

Good suggestion. I recently bought a B&M E-WERK from Starbike. Was heaps cheaper than getting it shipped to Aus even with VAT. Plus shipping was free express. Got it sent to my brother in Germany to hold on to it for the moment. I'll have a look at Bike24.

ED: Not sure where you are getting your pricing/conversion from. I see the HD Hero 2 for 290 euro inc free shipping for the standard outdoor kit. That works out to be around ~$350 AUD.

I can get the outdoor or surf edition in Australia for $365 AUD which includes a 16GB Class 10 SD card and express postage so I'll have it by Tuesday.

The second line means "returns" as is repair / warranty. For postage within Germany then it will be quick ... though you need an address in Germany and couldn't easily get the GST (MwSt) taken off.

Don't forget to take VAT off... I went to xe.com once I removed VAT. Set country to Australia. Same applies in Germany, you may pay VAT but can claim it back departing

Well, you know the Aussie store selling it for $365 also provides a tax invoice, so I can have GST refunded when I leave Australia. I've done it before with other items.

In Australia I think you have to buy the item with 4 weeks of leaving the country to get GST refunded. I can't find out what the threshold is in Germany as I'll be buying at the start of my 9 week trip, so may not be able to get VAT (19% extra) refunded any way. Worth an investigation though.

Ed: It's 3 months, however it's a bit more complicated than it is in Australia where you only need a current tax invoice and the item. You have to have the item marked as intended for export, and also be leaving the country on a non-EU passport. I was going to use my EU passport, but could always use my AUS passport instead as I'm there for less than 3 months anyway. Just don't want to go through immigration like a pleb as the EU passport line is quicker and easier.
