Bike and Lifestyle Show (10 FREE TICKETS UP FOR GRABS!!)

Postby timbo » Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:51 am

The 2012 Bike and Lifestyle show is on again from July 13-15 at Moore Park in Sydney.
Has anyone seen any advertising for the show?
I can't recall seeing any, even on SBS's TDF coverage.
Once again, the exhibitor list seems a bit light on. it will be interesting to see how successful it is.

I did hear one radio ad, but cant remember where. It's not so much a bike show as a retail show. And the word "lifestyle" just grates on me, but that's purely personal.

Maybe one reason why they're not getting many brands with their own exhibit is the Aussie sales and distribution methods? Example: if Avanti shell out for a stand, would they also show ABD, Scott and Raleigh? Or do they just take the headline brand? Are they risking a loss of Avanti sales by taking the others along as well? Sure, it's all adding to their distributors bottom line, but there's got to be more of a margin on the 'house brand'.

Saw an ad last night at about 11pm (I think) on SBS1 - they were advertising it as a place to watch the race from. I realy wasn't paying much attention as I was greasing a front hub at the time.
Not fast, no style, but still get there.

I spoke to organisers of the Sydney Bike and Lifestyle Show, they have double the number of exhibiters this year and more ongoing peripheral activities (bike polo, demos etc). Also there are test rides.

I highly recommend prebooking to save a few dollars, entry for adults is $22 and you save $4 prebooked.

On the lifestyle, in the context you would have to think about it as "bike lifestyle", as already suggested, it isn't presenting other sports.

I am aiming to be there on Friday evening and again on Sunday (sometime) if you spot me, say Hi.

I too have been in contact with the organisers after I said last year was a bit light on. To their credit they replied and have tried to show that they are trying really hard to get this show to work, ie gain cred and be a an event worth going to.

Sure there will be people selling things - not like they are a charity as far as I can tell. I wouldn't write it off due to that.

I plan to go this weekend, and fingers crossed it will be worth the trip and hopefully better than last year. I guess no point saying shows are crap if no one even bothers to give it a chance.

Strange how some things like the caravan and 4wd show are huge (and it is sellers the whole way), but things like this seem to struggle. :?

I'll be going again this year even though it was a bit underwhelming. I reckon it can only be a good thing but it does need to be advertised better.

Unless I was a bike related business, Why would i pay $22 to go and look at a bike expo?

I understand the people running it are trying to get a business up and running and need to make some money. I have no problem with that but seriously why would the public pay to go to something like that?

Also a comment on the BNA website about the online $5.30 booking fee - so with door prices at $22 and online prices of $18 + $5.30, assuming that the booking fee is a flat rate and per order (not ticket) this would only make sense if you are ordering two or more tickets.
