These are going for $1,000 off the list price at the moment. How would these compare to the various Giant similar level machines ?

Re: GT Zaskar opinionsOne is a GT Zaskar the other is a Giant. Doesn't matter how good a Ford or Holden is most owners would never swap the cars they drive
Looks good on paper. Has a Reba fork, good. It has a Sram "double" crank set (39/26). Sram have "better" ratio chain rings as options IMHO. So if you live in the mountains you might suffer. Giants often come with Avid brakes (elixir) which some people like and others don't.
Re: GT Zaskar opinionsI'm a Giant fanboi but if I was in the market for a performance hardtail that pricing would have me drooling. GT hardtails are typically rockets uphill and handle well.

Re: GT Zaskar opinionsNice bike and well specced - they look great in the flesh too. There's actually not much left in the Giant range that is comparable with that these days. The XTC is either an entry spec 26 or a loaded to the gills 29er. Anthem is full suspension.
That said though....the XTC 1 at the same shoppe is $300 cheaper and the only significant difference is the fork and a 3x10 crank. The fork is a RS Recon Silver TK Solo Air - only one and a bit steps down in the RS range. This is not a bad fork. Much the same thing sits on my Cannondale Trail 29er. If it were my money....I'd probably go for the $300 saving. Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle
